It seems to be the answer to everyone who wanted to play with bigger ships on the X-Wing game :-*

Quote
In Star Wars: Armada, you command the unmatched power of the Imperial fleet, or gain the opportunity to prove your tactical acumen as an admiral in the Rebel Alliance. Massive Star Destroyers fly to battle against Rebel corvettes and frigates. Banks of turbolasers unleash torrential volleys of fire against squadrons of X-wings and TIEs.

Assemble your fleet, survey your objectives, form your battle plan, plot your course, call your shots, and destroy the enemy. Armada balances the awesome scale of the Star Wars galaxy’s ships and space warfare with ship designs and rules that make for accessible, intuitive play experiences. It’s your job to issue the tactical commands that will decide the course of battle and, perhaps, the fate of the galaxy.

The Star Wars: Armada Core Set contains everything you need to get started, including the rules, an articulated maneuver tool, a range ruler, six command dials, nine attack dice, ten unpainted squadrons, and three pre-painted ship miniatures (Victory-class Star Destroyer, Nebulon-B frigate, CR90 Corellian corvette), plus more than 130 cards and tokens.

Not only have they brought us out of scale fighters, they now bring us out of scale capital ships...  :?

Well, I'm sure some of them might be useful.

I'm assuming the rules will be of a similar vein to X-wing?

Our 1/1000 scale is still better Jim.  I might look out for those fighters though, just in case.  ::)

I've been kvetching far greater, than about the scale, that the fighters come unpainted.

I speak heresy here, but I just...don't...paint...

Now, they are small, and I WILL get by, but, for a hunnert 'merican dollars, seems a bit cheap without the cheerful.

Beast...something tells me a very simple black wash applied = fighters would be done (maybe a small dollop of coloured paint to differentiate rebel squadrons).

It looks...interesting, but I guess I'm out of touch with the Star Destroyer, since I'm used to this version:

Not the one with the weird side sponsons.

The control stick looks horrible, and it looks like the "formula" for these games is becoming more and more complex.  I agree capital ship combat should be a bit complex, but I think they may be trying to cram a real normal rules set into a "fast out of the box" game mechanic.  I imagine this will also have to always be many rebel ships vs. fewer Imperial vessels (something I love - always prefer uneven sides etc.).  I'll wait until my buddies pick it up.  Just looks like a bit much for the style of game.

Ohh. ...I can see this being a game I get. It certainly appeals to me more than some simple dog fights!

How long do you give it before someone build a super Star Destroyer for it?

The Armada one looks like the Victory Class rather than the Imperial Class (ie the Star Wars IV Star Destroyer). It's from various games etc, but only 60% of the size of the Imperial class.

That said, its still not the same scale as the Neb B, which in turn isn't the same scale a the CR90.

Might buy some fighters, but the rest is if no interest to me.

Don't.

You.

Dare.

Tempt.

Me.

 lol

The trouble would be choosing a scale that would best fit  :? Not easy with FFG's record so far.

I'll be honest - for something that involves capital size ships I just don't care much about the scale inaccuracies.  Though I guess it's a smart move if that is a "small scale" star destroyer.  The combat in the game (even at matching scale) would still be comically close - borderline absurd.  I think I'd be fine leaning to the abstract side of things.  It's the heaps of tokens and rather clunky looking mechanics which is turning me off.
