Squats or Space Dwarfs... In Space!

So... as is usually the case, I have been distracted and have started something else. Over the past few months I have been collecting together plastic Squat miniatures... and have a truck-load now so I have started putting them together. I am sculpting the arms myself (to try and get better poses) and will have berets for all the Squats that don't have helmets. I expect that mobile gun platforms will join this army rather than carried heavy weapons... but it's early days and I may yet get distracted again.

Anyway, here is what I have so far:



You will notice that I have coated some of the 'wire arms' with a first layer of green stuff ready for the proper sculpting to go on top. They are obviously still WIP but this pic shows what the guns look like and how I am arming my Sgts as well. The two sgts with berets will not be used for the helmeted platoons so they are being saved for a platoon that has berets instead. Here's a pic of my Squat making mat:



You'll notice the weapons for the troops, that are either getting lengthened (plasma pistols into plasma guns) or have been shortened (lasguns) plus a couple of Cadian flamers. There are no weapons for two of the troopers as they will be controlling the heavy weapon units.

As for the whole Squat arms thing: I have a few of those Adventurer fellas that I will be adding arms too eventually so will be watching this thread with interest.

Here's the next update... I'm now up to 26 WIP squats with 2 actually finished:



there is all sorts going on with these:

• The helmet wearing troops are a single 25 Squat platoon (the 3 with berets will be in the next one)
• The specialists have been given armoured arms because their weapons get hot
• The command squad will have a lieutenant, medic, flamer and two close combat troopers
• The lieutenant has a power weapon made from a flamer, sprue and a Mantic hammer
• The Squats in 1 and 2 squad, with no weapons will have control of the heavy weapon platform

Looking great so far, and that's from someone who usually doesn't like space dwarves. That bulldog is from mantic right?

I just had a weird thought: The bit I like sculpting the least is the arms, and that is 95% what you are doing here.
Bearing that in mind, there is even more kudos for this project from me.
 




EDIT: I shall now bugger off and carry on with the arms on my City Gents as I realise that is what I should be doing, not skiving off on here.....the irony.....

I am working on five at the moment.
I just enjoy sculpting the rest of the figure more, thats all.
