Eilif's Toybashing and More (12/17 Alpha Strike in 10mm)
« on: August 30, 2014, 03:27:25 AM »
Rather than continuing to make different topics, I'm turning this this into the one-stop display thread for the various sci-fi projects rolling off my workbench
There's quite a bit coming, stay tuned...

Finally getting around to painting up the in-progress buildings I showed a couple weeks ago. You can see my previous post with the in-progress pictures here:
http://chicagoskirmish.blogspot.com/2014/08/toy-bashing-urban-terrain.html

The first one done is the "Building Under Construction" which is based on a "Fast Lane" (Toys R Us store brand) Parking Garage that I found at a resale shop for $3!  Though I don't currently play Necromunda (have the figs though and hope to someday), this building has a very Necro look to me. As you can see, it's quite a sizable structure.

Side view

Close up of the ground floor HVAC/Elevator shaft unit.  The whole model is painted in a very fast method of prime, drybrush basecoat, 2 brown washes and drybrush tan, so it's slightly less impressive up close.

Though there's alot of open space, there's sitll alot of opportunities for cover, and I'm working on some construction and warehouse themed scatter terrain (coming later)

Lots more pics of the finished project and my ramblings here:

Beautiful!  Hmmmm, I remember when they actually had cool playsets...

Very nice! I should look for my old matchbox parking deck in the attic!

Thanks folks.
I also fondly remember the matchbox and hot wheels playsets of yesteryear. For lack of a better word, they seemed so much more "realistic" than so many of the playsets of today which seem to try and cram action features in every corner.

I've actually seen this playset in stores and it's so much more realistic than most of the stuff being put out by Matchbox and Hot Wheels.

Back with a smaller piece this time.   A power station built from a Hot Wheels car launcher. Very little conversion work required on this one.

more pics and descriptions here:

Also, at the link above a bit of a review of the Girder and Panel pieces currently being rebadged and sold in the "Power City" line of toys.

Coming later this week, something really impressive!

I've been waiting about 10 years for my kids to decide they don't want their one of these. Of course, eldest gave it to youngest and it looks I might have to wait a bit longer now.

It's a gorgeous piece - I'm very envious!

Glad you folks liked it.
I'm in the exact opposite situation.  My 3 year old son sees glimpses of the stuff I use for terrain and the terrain I build and is always asking if he can play with them.  This is somewhat to my chagrin as he is definitely no lacking in toys since the resale shopping that nets me all my terrain stuff has brought him a Thomas collection that would be the envy of any child.

I just tell him "When you're older we'll build models together" or "one day all this will be yours" and that seems to satisify him.

Sad thing, I've actually had a couple in the tub for terrain building at the shop, and, for the longest time, no one saw the unmined gold there in.  :'(

One lad finally took one, cut in half, and butted the free standing tower up against a building for 'attached utilities'. I'm not sure if the other piece got used yet. Take a bit of work, but will be a fine power shed, don't you think?

Seems like a good use to me, it definitely looks the part.  Did it at least get a nice paintjob?

Here's the next one, and it's a biggie.
An Elevated Train Station.  This one began it's life as a Fisher Price GEO Trax playset.  It's just the start of a Terrain Sub-set that I'm working on that will be an elevated train line. I've got all the necessary pieces, I've just got to get assembling and painting.  Stay Tuned for future posts.

As always pics from every angle (including the underside) and other details here:

Anyway, here goes:
