Lurker stepping out
« on: August 16, 2008, 11:19:05 PM »
Hi folks,

I've been watching and reading since February or March.  I'm stopped playing 40k a couple of years ago, and have since filled the void primarily with Warmachine and Hordes. I've been painting some 10mm historicals for the game Impetus lately, but I keep coming back and reading through this forum. I bought the Triumph & Tragedy rulebook some months ago, and although I've read the rules, I haven't played.

In short, I am very interested in the back of beyond stuff, darkest africa, VSF, the Old West, and pulp in general.  Let's see where this leads.  >:D

Welcome! Your interests will certainly fit right in here.

I've always thought that Back of Beyond (gamed with a ruleset such as T&T) makes an excellent "transition" setting for people coming from a 40K & Warmachine type background. It allows players to choose from a multiple number of factions to play, and for the most part, any two factions can be thought to have a motive and an opportunity to fight each other. But at the same time, there are no absolute boundaries you're not allowed to cross in regards to what you may field in your army, as there are in 40K and such games. One guy might collect Tibetans or Pathans as a "faction" of their own, another might just toss in a few as guides in his European (choose a country) expeditionary force. You've also got "mercenary units" such as weapon smugglers, that can join any force to make gameplay more varied.

Darkest Africa can be thought of in much the same way.

Yes, we're taking over!

Maybe it is because this forum appears to be THE forum for historical and other cool adventurous settings that don't have "Warhammer" written all over them.

Welcome aboard! If its possible I would love to see how you've based your 10mm stuff for Impetus. I've been drawn to Impetus by its large bases. Even without alot of work they become mini-dioramas just by their nature.
