El Zorro - The Fox
« on: August 24, 2008, 11:48:33 AM »
I'm posting this here and cross posting it to the Swashbuckling board too as I am not entirely sure where he should go. I figure he belongs in both. :)

I have just picked up the Green for my start of my Down Mexico Way range of figures. The first is Zorro. :)

He has been scuplted by the very talented Matthew Bickley.

Matt is working on Zorro's enemies -  Mexican Presidial Lancers at present. The dashing Captain Alforno, his inept Sargento Garcia and some regular troopers. All will have mounted and dismounted variants.

The greens should be ready by the end of september

To follow will be some Vaqueros, the dastardly governor and some American interlopers. The some more Mexican soldados.

I hope you like them :)

Oh yes, I like these very much!  :D

How does the figure fit in with other ranges? For example the Artizan Mexican soldiers.

Please let us know when they are ready for release.
Ray.

Ray - He is scaled to fit with Artizan, so no problems there. I wanted to use him with my existing collection, so was designed with them in mind.

I will need to get a few more ssculpted up before I get them cast, so a couple of months away yet.

Commanche perhaps? or maybe the Apache. :)

The vaqueros/ Rancheros will comprise five figures, (foot and mounted variants) wearing Serapes, Ponchos, low crowned sombreros and flat brimmed hats. They will be armed with a mixture of long rifles, muskets and flintlock pistols. They are coming up next after the lancers, probably oct/nov.

He looks very good.  I like the hand up in the air.  He's got sort of an uncharacteristic blade for Zorro, however, no?

I hope your lancers will feature the same flat-brimmed hat Zorro wears.  From my perspective what makes the whole Mexican uniform so cool, unique and romantic is that hat.

Yes I kno what you mean about the blade. Its not too bad when you see him inthe Green and because the blade is brown, it stands out more. It should look fine when painted or even filed down a bit.

Yes, the lancers will have the flat brimmed hat with white band. Blue tailcoat and grey overalls. The disdmounted figures will be advancing with carbines and the officer will have sword and pistol.

Dodge

They will be available direct from me. :)

The Alamo stuff is coming simultaneously with Zorro. The Mexican troops will be the same for both periods with Zorro being anywhere from 1820 - 1850 and after the next group of Tejano Vaqueros we will be starting on some Alamo defenders/ American interlopers.

My vision is to able to pay these as skirmish games with hero type figures on both sides and a supporting cast of character figures and basic troopers. Most will come with foot and mounted variants to enable most scenarios to nbe played out.

I am also planning some civilians to populate the towns including a mexican peasant riding a donkey... ;)

This is all very exciting!

I'm really looking forward to seeing the rest of the range - and trying to work out how many I will be able to afford.

I'm thinking start fairly small with Gloire, then expand to LOTOW for larger games later on  :D

And I forgot to add:

Yes, we need the Catherine Zeta-Jones type of lady to go along the Zorro!
