Nicely handled blacks, but I'm particularly taken by the plaid shirt on the guy with the Mr Whippy hair-do.

WOW!  i am such a fan of your work! Every piece is a masterpiece!  May I pick your brain for some advice?  I'm stumped on red heads and brunettes....  What did you do for the brunette top center and auburn on the right?  Just magnificent!

Well, for the red head I used a base coat of VMC Cavalry Brown and layered up highlights with GW Jokaero Orange and then added a bit of VMC Yellow Ochre.

The brown hair had a base coat of VGC Charred Brown and was highlighted with VGC Beasty Brown and then whatever happened to be on my palette that was still wet at the time...  :? could have been VGC Desert yellow or VMC US Field Drab, just some sort of tan brown.

Hope that helps.  :)

Thanks for the comments everyone.  :D

 lol

I just use a few different colours to highlight the black with which on a model that might be primarily the one colour can break up the areas nicely. VGC Sombre Grey, Khaki and Cold Grey are three of my favourites. I've got the dregs of a pot of 80's Citadel Ghoul Grey which works really well too (must find a good equivalent soon!). Other than that it's just careful layering.

Thank you! Basalt is vmc for cold I believe and a dark greyblue would work for sombre. Cheers, I tend to avoid black (or balck) clothing but am painting judges and some of these very same Hasslefrees at the mo and was going mad..

Fantastic brushwork. That plaid shirt is outstanding.
Below is a link to my blog. It's the place where I write uninteresting things about little toy soldiers. I do this because I refuse to grow up and behave like an adult.
