Studio Tomahawk - WW1 Game
« on: October 30, 2014, 12:57:09 PM »
Read this on Gripping Beast's website.

"Not long until there's a CRISIS!
 1st November 2014 at Hangar 29, Waagnatie, Rijnkaai 150, 2000 Antwerpen (that's Belgium!)
Always a fantastic show, we'll be there assisting the Studio Tomahawk team run their stall and putting on demos of SAGA The Crescent & The Cross, JUGULA and a brand new, forthcoming WW1 game that will challenge you to think differently about tabletop wargames.

Just wondered if anyone knows anymore about this game?

they act very mysteriously about that - maybe some of our french forumite who attended their show in march can tell more?

but there You are:
"We'll start with more news from Studio Tomahawk. Another blogger happened to be at their special event, and tokk a lot of pictures, including some with informations:
http://disteph.wordpress.com/2014/03/11/retour-de-la-journee-du-studio-tomahawk/
What do we learn? The WW1 game will be in 10mm, with specially produced minis, about the fateful summer of 1914. It's a strategic game, where you will be a division or army general. Apparently, it is based on intel you will receive, orders you will give, and a special tempo, time flow of the battle.

The Congo! game is set in Darkest Afrika, and is about skirmish fighting between the tribes and the European powers. You should play it with around 30-40 minis each. Clearly you can see some adventurers too in the pictures. So wait and see."

10mm is an interesting choice. I will keep my eye on this.

Thanks for the replies chaps. I already have a 28mm WW1 force so I don't want to start another scale. Sounds a good game though.

There is mention of the Congo in that post, is that a separate game for more modern period?

Yes, check out the link there's some interesting stuff there (how cool is the hot air balloon in the Congo game!).

The 10mm WWI game looks a bit like a lavishly terrained board game. It does look interesting, I'd like to know more too.

I would much rather have seen Shakos and Bayonets released than this. :(

My guess there would be nothing stopping you from having Shakos and Bayonets in the Congo if that's your thing.

Thanks for the info. I received Kris's lovely miniatures late last week.

Also known as The battle of the Silver helmets? Cavalry units on both sides I believe with some infantry and artillery support.
Best wishes,
Helen

Indeed also know as The Battle of the Silver Helmets.
Last tradinional cavelry attact and 'the only' Belgian victory without the support of other countries in WOI.
It has a small but nice museum: http://www.slagderzilverenhelmen.be/
I live almost near the battlefield but in Belgium you always live near the battlefield !
Waterloo, Ypre, Bastogne ... when you drive 100 km from the middle you find a lot of history on your way.
