Greek Regular 1826 28mm New Green Greek War of Independence
« on: November 25, 2014, 10:10:04 PM »
The latest green to come off Steve Barbers table, representing a Greek Regular in the third incarnation dress ideal for 1826 onwards such as the battle of Chaidari.

Very nice indeed!

Helmets were lost very quickly and they were replaced by a tasseled low fez.
The fezzed version was also the uniform of the army raised of the newly independent state of Hellas (Greece) during the Capodistrian times, i.e. approx. till 1832 and the arrival of king Otto. Then it was replaced by uniforms of Bavaria cut and type.

I gather the reason for losing the helmet was due to the fact the newly trained troops found it constraining.

Or just to keep the replacing cost low.

If I remember well the helmets were custom made in the british isles (as all of the kit and uniform) and paid by some philhellenic committies, so loosing it will eventually cost higher amounts of cash. Fabric fez cost much less!
Fabric was easily and low cost to find it.

Whilst this pic represents a cadet the uniform he wears is similar to that worn from 1828
