Robotech RPG Tactics - My First Models Done
« on: December 13, 2014, 08:40:50 PM »
Just finished my first 5 Valkyries in fighter mode.  Next up is battleoid mode ... then guardian.  This is Vermilion squadron with Rick Hunter, Max Sterling and Ben Dixon all there ... with a standard brownie to round out the squadron.  I've also added Roy Folker into the group as well.

Lookin' good.  Very glad to see you switch to wire for flying models - the little flight stands are terrible looking and would completely ruin the aesthetic for almost any of these models.  I'm still not sold on the bases (with that tab) so I'll probably go 40mm renedras or something.

Can't wait to see the rest - how many of those 4Ground buildings do you have?

Heck yeah ... hate the flight stands that are included ... lots of options are available to replace them though :-)  I don't mind the bases ... need to keep track of which cards (tracking damage) are for which mecha ... so I'm going to print a small ID off and glue it to the little tab.  40mm Renedras would also be nice.  I have 17 of the 4Ground buildings ... essentially the entire range bought once over.

Love these, very nice paintjob!

I am still waiting for my pledge fulfillment.
Really sucks if you are a backer and get your items later as the FLGS...
 :(

Great painting and a good article!

How did you do the panel lines? Pen?

I'm still waiting for my stuff... let's see when it gets here.

But I personally never got the whining about the parts count. I've built 1/200 Macross models previously and these seem to be on the same level of complexity.

It's a completely different thing when you can alter the design to fit manufacturing capabilities rather trying to faithfully reproduce an existing design like here.

Things happen and you have to keep the company alive and project rolling, that is understandable. But it is not a very nice feeling when the company seems to think of your pledge as money in the bank and concentrates on getting new sales. This can manifest as lack of communication, delivery schedules, final retail pricing (*cough* Reaper *cough*)...

Yeah, does feel a bit like an 'F-you' to European backers.

Anyway... really nice paintwork on those Sotek. They look just like the cartoon.

Thanks!  Agree on the parts count ... no complaints here.  For the black lines I do what I call "painting short" --- I prime the model black then "paint by numbers" each natural area on the model - stopping short of the full area at the edges to leave the black line in between the two colours.  I used GW white ... which covers black well in two coats.

Thank goodness...that's how I was planning to try mine.  Glad to know it works!  At least on the Veritechs which are really quite small models.  I did consider dipping too...lol... lol
