Chinese Warlord Blue
« on: January 12, 2015, 05:33:18 PM »
Anyone have any specific paint recommendations for the Chinese warlord blue-gray? I did a search and found some discussion, but nothing specific. Was thinking perhaps the Vallejo Luftwaffe blue? If anyone has anything that works particularly well, I'd appreciate the tip.

I used a mix of blue grey and dark grey from a brand of paints called mp miniature paints, not sure if they are available near you as I get mine from a local games shop which is the only place i've seen them in person.
Hope it helps.

Vallejo Field Blue works quite nicely. Tow Weiss did use it for his Chinese army:

I do like the color you chose for your Chinese 88D...

Funny thing is, I was going to start a thread on this topic myself when I saw this one and yours... I have a bunch of BoB Chinese I would like to paint and sell and wanted to asked if the color I chose was (about) right.

Here's a WIP picture

It's a 50/50 mix of Vallejo German Uniform and Azur (light blue)

What do you think?

Cheers! 8)
A CANADIAN local hobby store with a small selection of historical wargames miniatures (mainly from Warlords). They also have a great selection of paint and hobby accessories from Vallejo, Army painter, AK Interactive, Green Stuff World and more.; https://www.kingdomtitans.ca/us/

Cheers for the vote of confidence pal, I'm still going to use a similar tone to my original ones but I'm going to use the field blue to give the uniforms a little more depth and use my original colour for highlights now.

I do like your tone mate, Can't wait to see him finished.

I used all kind of greys for variety, but the most usefull one was Vallejo  70905 Bluegrey pale for the troops. For the officers, who had a bluer hue : Vallejo Game G102 Steel Grey is very nice.

Renaud-those are gorgeous.  :-* Thanks for sharing and inspiring.  I recognize the Pulp and Copplestone figures-the gents with Adrian helmets and rifles are Brigade, correct?

Also, was there any conversion work involved in the matching foot/mounted figures?

Thanks :-). Yes, some of the Adrian helmets are Brigade miniatures WWI Russians. For the matching foot/mounted figures on the picture, I did only minor conversion work, like adding shoulder tabs to the infantry figures (after this photo was taken). I also did some head swaps and sculpted ammo pouches on other models not pictured here to get a larger dismounted cavalry force.

I would think French Horizon Blue could work for some Chinese Armies (perhaps with a bit more light grey mixed in ?)
