Painted Test! Normandy Buildings in 15mm
« on: January 16, 2015, 02:49:46 PM »
Hi everyone! I think it's time to show on the forum what I've been showing on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/thelazyforger) one picture per time.

Recently I've started working on some 15mm scifi buildings as shown in this post: http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=73175.0
Then, i tried to move back to WWII as well, and i did my first experiments. I've got three facades in progress. One is basically done, and only the painting awaits the first assembled prototype. The other two are now waiting for the molding, that will be hopefully done today.

The model is done from 3D printed parts with hand work on them (the weathering mainly), combining different parts to have more variety. In general, i will do three variants for each facade, and in my next order i will do the back facades as well as other shapes for the front ones.

The first cast looked like this:

and, after adding the shutters, the depht of the model was much more satisfying:

As a showcase, i built the rest of the building around it, using a resin roof i did a couple of years ago and some cardboard walls.

The modular windows can be used either for the ceramic facades for master sculpting and for the custom buildings. I'm happy of the result but i'm sure i'll do better next time. In general, that's a great way to make a cardboard look impressive. :)

AND NOW... the other two facades are there, awaiting for their turn in the same process:

Any comment is welcome, as i'm always eager for advice. :) :) :)

Cheers
Jack

Wow, those look super! Did you build the plaster sections as wooden forms first? What did you do to get the texture?

No, the basic structures are made from a 3D print in a rough material. The final texture works pretty well, and it's several times faster than using a negative form. :)

The forms are very useful when you have to make simpler and less accurate shapes, or when you want to give a specific texture, as for my bunkers. :)

For now, i've had some chatting with 15mm.co.uk, although we haven't discussed the economical part for a WWII buildings line. However, I'm still open to offers...
The only thing i'm sure is that i'm not going to cast them by myself... that is too much time consuming.

The models are now completed with doors as well. All the shutters will be cast separately, to allow more variety in the final piece. :)

Thank you =)

Do you know who are the largest 15mm WWII scenery companies around? As i said, i'd love to find a good sponsor for those, possibly a quite large one. Now i'm discussing some possibilities with 15mm.co.uk, but i'd love to probe other directions as well!

Cheers
Jack
