At last, some proper textured panelling.....

Now that the cardboard 'core' is finished, I have used Green modelling foam to build wooden planking to the exterior of the forge. These individual foam planks are textured with sandpaper and/or the teeth of a razorsaw before being glued in place with superglue.

I cannot see why you keep linking to your blog as it would surely be more appropriate to put the WIP pictures on here.

Mainly because I have lots to say and the build threads on LAF seam to be a little condensed. Plus I have lots of Blog followers whom I know would like to see the added text and detail - as this is what I usually do. See Blog for details.....

However, what is the view of LAF members?

Personally I don't follow any blogs. I guess it boils down to not having a blog of my own. And usually I'm very lazy to check the blog links posted on forums, I rather hope to see everything at one go… but you have an active blog so hopefully you can "serve" both your blog followers and LAFers

Your build is progressing fast…will there be any surroundings to go with it?

Surroundings?

I am planning to build a larger scenic base, but not huge as my plan has been and continued to be that The Horseshoe Forge will be added to my personal terrain/scenery collection. The build has taken on a life of it's own so don't be surprised if this changes!

What I meant was: Why not put the additional material on here as well as it is a LAF competition?
Surely it would just be a simple matter to copy and paste.

Construction continues. I have now added my first bits of DAS modelling clay to The Horseshoe Forge. The DAS is always added over a layer of dilute uPVA glue, to help make the clay stick and to stop shrinkage.

The DAS around the roof eaves helps to smooth out any gaps and will make tiling easier.

The following two images show how I create 'hills and troughs' the natural undulations of a traditionally built roof. I build up layers of torn paper, one over the other and glued in place with more uPVA glue until I have a subtle rippling. Try not to be too heavy handed with this, I have found that subtlety is the key.

Very slick solution. I have tried several other methods to replicate this in the past without achieving usable results. Nothing that I tried was either so simple or obvious. Watching with interest.
