Thank you all for your kind words.

The most expensive item in creating such a nice looking terrain, that you can keep in a box, was the trees.

I did have to spend about $400 AUD on trees that I got off EBAY. All are made in China and I highly recommend them.

The game play was simple.

Pascal, Shane and Hank had to travel from the one end of the table to Old Bill's cabin on the far side. Hank followed behind Pascal and Shane with the pack animals, as the other two scouted ahead.

As the Umpire, I threw a die each turn to see which event the Mountain Men encountered. Possible encounters were Sign, Humans, Small game, Large game and Special encounter.

Sign meant the Mountain Man  had come across fresh tracks and this was then determined to be either animals or humans. It was then up to the Player if they wanted to use their Tracking skills to follow the sign.

I only threw an encounter die roll for Pascal and Shane, thinking that Hank with the pack animals were immune due the other two ranging ahead.

They did encounter three lots of Sign, but chose to ignore them. They had no need to hunt as they had 11 days of food stored on the pack horses and they wanted to get to the cabin as soon as possible.

At one point, Pascal spotted a lone wolf. He took good aim and killed it with a head shot.

Pascal and Shane then went down to where the wolf lay and skinned the beastie. Head shots doesn't de-value the price of the skin, so it urged the players to got  for head shots when hunting for pelts.

After meet up with Old Bill, the cabin was attacked by six Blackfeet warriors. They had been drawn to the area by Pascal's shot that killed the wold. During the short battle, Shane downed a number of the Indians and Hank took an arrow in his arm and another in his chest. Luckily, Pascal was close by and managed to tend to Hanks wounds by stopping the flow of blood.

It was a fun game, giving all three of us a chance to test play my rules, 'Buckskin and Powder.'

Unless I miss my guess, you put some real water on top of your water terrain for the photographs?!  ???

Love the water.  Was hoping to see more animals, though.  This is one of my small projects, mountain men - in 15 mm - and I've been collecting a bunch of critters to paint up so the environment has more than just trees.

But you are far ahead of me.  What are your plans with your rules?

Hello All,

The water effect was made with resin. I purchased the resin from a Art Supply Store here in Australia call, "Riot Art". It's fairly expensive at $30.00 AUD.

Here is a picture of the resin in it's manufacture's packaging.

You paint the resin onto your painted boards, I use 6mm MDF. The resin  doesn't seem to adhere to the painted surface and pulls together while wet and then sets firm. The pulling together into pools gives the ripple effect.

As for the rules, they are still a work in progress. They need a lot of test playing to make them have a right feel. The combat system is quite intense as there are only a few figures involved. Everything from Flesh Wounds, Bleeding Out, One Shot/One Kill, and so on.
