Argonor, it's a lovely project - specially for the family approach! Thank you very much for sharing, and please keep us posted on your progress!

I am looking forward to see how your village will develop...  ;)

In the meantime, I have added to the villagers paint queue:

Argonor, I have all the GB and Foundry Dark Ages civilians I could get my hands into, and will start working on them in a few days (weeks?), so THANK YOU VERY MUCH for that most valuable piece of advice from your blog: "I get happier every day about my decision to start with the Gripping Beast civilians, leaving the much nicer Foundry models for later, because, frankly, I might have given up cleaning these if I had done it in reverse order! Now I can look forward to working with the Foundry civilians as soon as I get through the Gripping Beast models."    ;)

Well, you may feel otherwise about them, but my impression is, those GB women and kids are a left-hand job, just added to the ranges for completeness' sake.

I was rather surprised by it, expecting better quality after having assembled a lot of their plastic figures.

Argonor, I totally agree with you! I have 4 GB metal peasants - models full of character, BTW - and two of them come with very big battle scars across their faces!  ;)

I have the peasants set, too, haven't looked closer, yet. I shall clean up and base all the women and kids, first, then move on to the males and their sheep...

Thanks! I hope to be showing some more painted Dark Ages models soonish, I have been working on rebasing some LotR figures for instant Blood Eagle warbands (which turned out to be not as instant after all) lately, because a grey tunic drove me nuts, but I only need to add some paint to the new bases, now, so I can get back to painting the Vikings later this week.

I like that Foundry bloke who's got his leg and arm chopped off. Always imagined myself as Ragnar Bigdik the Bold. Truth be told though, I'd probably have wound up as that little battered Foundry fellow, at the end of mi' days aviking!.

Finally, Úlf has been finished, and is now ready to go a'viking.

Nice paint job :)

Thanks!

I am not too keen on the tunic, but all in all for having to re-learn 3-4 layering technique for not having practised it for a long time (painting skellies for God of Battles doesn't really lend itself to that), I am just happy to get him finished.
