Scratch built walls WIP - test paint schemes
« on: August 11, 2015, 01:38:49 PM »
For a while I've been wanting to build some walls for my Pulp Alley meets Rogue Trader project. I went through no less than three designs before landing on one that works well. You can see all the designs over on the blog: http://preacherbyday.blogspot.com/2015/08/scratch-built-sci-fi-walls.html

They're versatile - useful for corridors and rooms, and for a podium (the original reason I built them).

Now I'm a bit terrible with colours, so I was wondering what suggestions you guys have. I could paint them like this Zone Mortalis stuff - grey with sand.

Or this kind of green.

Or grey plus that kind of green!

My tiles look like this, and I'm after contrast, but something that still fits in. What do you think?

Thanks guys, yes I think the versatility is what I really like about them.

In other news, I did a test piece to try out paint schemes. What do you like best (note there are three green options!)

Green works for me best, though blue is nice too. Yellow makes me think Egyptian tomb for some reason.....

Green and blue both look good, and I think the beige would be okay if it was more grey and less yellow.

In all cases though, I'd look for a light-ish and grey-ish feel to whichever colour you choose; both to compliment the dark grey, and also to provide some contrast.

Just to add to the confusion, I like the yellow.  :D Looks kind of sandstone-ish. Though I wouldn't disagree with Gilbear's suggestion to tone it down a bit.

Try and add a few posters to the test and a bit of weathering from water and stuff?
I think blue or green looks best right now, maybe try orange or red aswell?

To contrast with the grey tiles, why not sandstone for the main structure and dark green for the panels?

Hi gents, thanks for your thoughts, and the new ideas! I've also just noticed Matakishi has done a quite similar project over on his thread, and his stuff is all grey. I had been thinking that would look too much the same, but it has worked well on his stuff. More to think about!
