First time for me here but I've been advised by so many wonderful people to come that I had to start a thread of my own here at some point !

After following the "building armies based on army books for games I don't play" fashion, I've decided to get back to a more relaxed way of painting as painting is the part of th ehobby I spend the most time on (though I really do like playing).
With that in mind, i've started building little skirmish forces fro the Warhammer 40k universe, getting inspiration from all sources but mostly from the early material like Rogue trader or confrontation (missing link between laserburn and Necromunda).

I've found building small bands enables me to explore this vast setting without getting lost and it helps me a keep a good mojo painting wise as I can switch subjects every now and then.

The first warband I built with this in mind was the Sensei warband whose inspiration is heavily based on the Realm of Chaos books and on the Highlander Movies.

Looking very good!  I always loved that guy on the right.
Now what is this whole life of mortals but a sort of comedy, in which the various actors, disguised by various costumes and masks, walk on and play each one his part, until the manager waves them off the stage?

Cheers guys,

Next on my catching up : Roger Ferrero's crew also known as "Space Roger and his Galactic farers"

I've decided to give them a real retro sci-fi vibe with some model selection and a bright and clean paintjob. I really have a sweat spot for this warband who unfortunately is only a ghost of what it once was as I managed to frost it just before leaving for a gaming week-end... models were "saved" with a layer of antishine varnish but they now look plain and tasteless...  :?

you can find more about them  (from left to right)

- Johny Savuka
- Brook the skeleton mechanic
- Michan Pherry, Roger Ferrero and Allael Pherry
- Irn Bounce, space dwarf
- Zan Kieff

Nice work - full of character, and a great paint job to bring that out. I think Roger and Irn are my favourites - great models.

Lovely Pj JB! You knew that already of course :D
You're project has really tickled my RT-fancy. Damn! I don't need another project where each mini costs an arm and a leg :/

Lovely! :-* :-* :-*

I recognise some of the minis. Is Brook the Skeleton an old RT model?

Cheers guys !

@ Blacksoilbill : Roger and Irn are the models that motivated me to do that theme in the first place so that may show ^^.

@Centaur : Always nice to hear ! You'd be surprised how cheap this warband was, I got lucky and got the skeleton for 99p (average cost is more around 10£) but the thers are not te hardest models to get nor the most expensive really.

@Thebinman : Well comparison stops here, if only I was immortal too (maybe then I could paint this ever growing leadpile...)

@Andym : I thing the Space Skeleton even predates the release of Rogue trader. It is an excellent model, full of charm and details and a wonder to paint really !

Excellent models and painting! I will follow your goings on with interest :) The warbands side of 40K is quite an interesting one.

Ah, thanks again,

Something from last Orctober's event, a warband of old space orks with a combination of Citadel early Space orks, an Iron claw Robot controller and some Foundry snorklings. A real pleasure to paint these as I had managed to stay away from greenskins from most of my modelling life ! I think Painting a fistful of them every orctober will be a regular thing for me now.

You can see I didn't take any real original way with these but only opted for a skin colour I fancied (and repeated on all models) with a limited set of base colours to give a strong coherence to the group.

You can find the associated Blog post HERE for more pictures and backstory on these ;)
