S0TR Wierd War Starts for the Commander
« on: October 10, 2008, 01:45:58 PM »
Well hello all.

(Pictures will follow later today).

So yup bought a load of figures last year, looked at them..when 'mmm', then like some child with a short attention span I....oooh whats that over there!
(And so they languished in the wierd war box until the last few weeks).

So I dug out my 4 zombies, 8 grenadiers (G-SOTR02 & G-SOTR01) and prepped and undercoated the zeds.

Then I pondered on colour schemes for a few weeks, (trying to choose the right field grey)

Then I thought....erm hang on, I'll need more than 4 zeds, so I ordered the SOTR-SP02 BRAINWURST! starter pack:

1x G-SOTR07 German Zombie Horde (20 models with bare heads)
1x SHS-SOTR07 German Zombie Heads in Helmets (20 heads)
1x G-SOTR37 Zombie Bombs (4 models)

Four early paints and the completed horde pinned and prepped ready for priming:

Now things started to get interesting....

So I started to have a look around at vehicles, (usuall scale worries as everyone has) went with the Corgi 1/50 range and ordered:

CC60407 M3A1 HALF TRACK - US ARMY 331st INFANTRY
US60509 TIGER 1 TANK - EASTERN FRONT - WHITMAN (DE-CERTIFIED)
CC51014 M4 SHERMAN TANK US MARINE CORPS GUAM

Attention then turned to the new figures....

I'd already undercoated and started painting my first five, so called a halt on them so I can get the other 24 up to the same position and start a massive block painting production line, (Horroric memories of painting 60 Urk-hai over one christmas a few years ago still haunt me! ).

Drilled, pinned and filed the zeds together, also did the grenadiers too.

(Pic to follow)

US60509 TIGER 1 TANK - EASTERN FRONT - WHITMAN (DE-CERTIFIED)

The Tiger Tank was very nicely, (simply) painted and very usable straight from the box... however I wanted something a little more detailed.

(Stock photo).

So I removed all the stowage, equipment tools and weapons and detailed the tank using a mixture of inks and washes, then drybrushing and weathering techniques.

Then attention turned to the equipment, cleaned, sanded, painted back then painted up the cabling, tools etc. Tools and equipment moulded to the tank were picked out in black then painted gunmetal and washed, highlighted.

(Mid way through refit)

All the equipment was then remounted on the tank, it'll get a dull-coat later today as its bright and sunny.

So that's where we are at present, hoping the rule book turns up today, need to see where I'm going with these two armies.

Next up:

Pig Iron Kolony: Mecha-grenadier
Artizan officers

Nothing doing on these guys since Christmas 2007! Oops better get them painted now eh? ;)

To follow:

Hellboy: beginnings

E4M us armoured suits

Warzone Bahaus mechs

Warzone: Ubersoldat!

Cheers for now.

Looks like a cracking start!

I really love you Pig Iron conversions and you've done an excellent job on that Tiger.

Hmm...I don't know...Some people base-coating minis and leaving them a year before finishing them....never catch me doing that....( he says looking at the 12 drawers full of half finished projects!!!)  lol

Look forward to seeing these as you do them.

Regards

Cheers PM, got the bit between my teeth this time!

Vulkan battlesuits are drilled, pinned and glued now, just need to sort out banners hanging from the autocannons and other third reich embellishments then they can get undercoated.

More pics tomorrow

Ah the ever present sales pitch!  ;) I'll need to see a painted one next to a S0TR figure re scale as we've already discussed my friend. If they look right you never know.

Anyway....

Warzone plastic Bauhaus + SoTR heads & Maxmini resin heads = SS Uber soldat.

Pics later

very nice

Ta.

Friday night:

Vulkan battlesuits drilled, pinned and glued now, just need to sort out banners hanging from the autocannons and other third reich embellishments then they can get undercoated.

Saturday (Lovely sunny day so out at the beach for most of it). pm (rather than face X factor!!!  :o).

My order through from Steven at Clifton Road Games, (only ordered it at 12:30 Fri lunchtime!!!).

US-SOTR09 US Packed .30 Cal
G-SOTR25 German Mech Grenadier, Squad Command Set
G-SOTR30 German NCOs, Various Weapons
US-SOTR05 US Armoured Infantry Sniper, Springfield (SHS)
US-SOTR05 US Armoured Infantry BAR (SHS)

So built up the two German units (NCO's)using the westwind heads plus pig iron, maximini and GW heads. Helmets cut from gasmasks and added to the equipment of those NCO's with either bare or gasmasked heads.

Also mocked up another six uber soldat, (warzone Bauhaus plastics with WW & maximini replacement heads) so that's twelve.

Finally, took Hasslefree's 'not Underworld vampire' figure HFA021 Dionne (b), lopped of her head and drilled and pinned the westwind SS officer head (Hellboy 'Kroenen') style head.

Not three bad at all. Loads to photo, will have to wait till tomorrow.

It's tomorrow!  ;)

(all at either mock up or undercoat stage, blutack will be gone on all by tonight).

First up: Group Shot.

From left to right:

the very edge of my female SS Kroenen miniature, couple of artizan minis with head swops, (sniper two NCO's in great coats). Eight grenadiers + NCO's (one westwind head one pig iron head with helmet added to webbing). Uber soldat, (warzone bauhaus plastics with mix of warzone, westwind and Maximini heads). Command squad, (medic with maximini head). Three mechs, (toying with banners on these). 16 pig iron conversions using warzone backpacks, two NCO's one with GW head, (brettonian whipping boys!) and one Maximini head and finally six artizan Nacht jager, (which I'm still deciding whether to use or not).

Close ups:

Mechs:

NCO (maximini head) with Pig iron stuff:

NCO (GW head) with Pig Iron stuff:

Zeds: (with a BAM Vampire and an idea for another vampire enjoying some sunshine! AHHHHHH).

Uber Soldat (mock up) with Dionne figure, (mock up still to drill and pin head).

Enjoy!

These are looking excellent!

You have a real eye for converting minis. I was a little unsure of the Warzone minis but they fit in really well.
Very inspiring work.

Very interesting stuff. How's the postage with PigIron anyhow? The only reason I haven't approached them yet is their mailing system(cause I'm a lazy turd who lives under a rock ;D).

Cool. I've been pondering buying the militia for a small Helghast-themed army.
