Badab War: Mantis Warriors Apothecary (page 3)
« on: May 06, 2015, 04:47:59 AM »
Hey folks,

I updated the blog on the first part of the Badab War project. First up is Captain Corvin of the 3rd company. I'll be working on the rest of the HQ to follow then the first of the Tactical Squads, then some Fire Hawks after that.

This project is a dream project for me and a lot of fun stuff and projects from friends are coming together for this. It will eventually involve large forces for (not) 40k (using modified DHC7B), Battlefleet Gothic, and Space Hulk to fight a Badab War campaign. I love the new beakie mk 6 parts that come in the new Tactical Box. Between trading and getting parts online and scrounging I have been able to put together enough beakies to do this project right. I call it neu-old school. Making old school armies with new parts.

Here is the Captain.

Hope you enjoy!

Nice scheme, though, if I could offer some advice I'd say you need to thin your paints a little.

That is a totally AWE-sum Mantis Marine! :)

There are more Mk.6 parts in the newest Tactical box? I might have to get 1 or 2. Loves me some Beakies. :D

There are some mk 6 parts in the box, but to get an all mk 6 squad, you'll have to supplement with bits and trades.

The tactical box has:

2 mk 6 chests.

2 mk 6 beakie helmets.

4 mk 6 legs.

And, unfortunately, only one mk 6 set of shoulder pads (one smooth and one with bolts).

Hope that helps :)

@Pizzagrenadier - it does, thanx. :)

I usually put 2-3 Mk. VI in every squad. I have a few more than that in my Space Wolves, because the old accessory sprue had the best Mk. VI chest piece.

Need to get back at them, I'm a much, much more skilled painter than when I originally did my Space Marines.

Boy howdy is that true for me too! My first beakies were Crimson Fists painted with Testors enamels applied with toothpicks. My second box was Flesh Eaters only marginally better painted with Armory paints and brushes.

My original Mantis Warriors were a little better painted than that. But not by much.

XD I found a few of my first Marines. Let me get a squad done, and I'll post a compare-and-contrast. :)

That sounds good. Looking forward to seeing the side by side. I lost track of my old stuff years ago all except for one Ork Weirdboy.

Ah, the Mantis Warriors! I did a batch of these up waaay back when using the first generation plastic Space Wombles, plus a hover tank made from plastic late 70s-vintage microwave dinner plates (Budget Gourmet IIRC) to match... perhaps I'll have to reconstitute the old unit for nostalgia's sake, as your splendid rendering is quite inspiring to say the very least... 8)
