I saw this in Waterstones yesterday - it's a VSF childrens book with a nice line in steam-powered spaceships (sorry, Aetherships) and automatons.  The book is full of really nice victorian-style illustrations, adverts, made-up magazines and other strangeness.

I haven't read it yet, but the website is fun!

Edit: apparently Warner Brothers have aquired the rights to make a film of it too (for release in 2008) - and it was only published last month!

It's an excellent book, as are all Philip Reeve's novels for young persons.

His other stuff is a series set in the future, but with a steampunk feel. I've read the first three and look forward to the fourth coming out in N. America.

The news about the movie is great, too!

If VSF for kids really takes off,  it will certainly help my own series: book two, "The Faceless Fiend" went to the copy editor today.
