I won't be getting them, because the Swiss don't much interest me. I do agree though (speaking as a fully signed up Perry fanboy) that one or two of the figures top right don't look all that clever. It's been a bit of a feature of some of Michael's metal medieval sets that a smattering of the figures appear a bit dashed off / impressionistic. Strangely - or perhaps not so strangely, given that he's an incredibly accomplished artist - once you give them a coat of paint, even the ropiest and most casually knocked together figures seem to spring to life though. But I certainly agree that in their unpainted state, there are one or two here that wouldn't pass muster on a quality control basis at first glance...

What about for GoT, they'll be quite suitable for that  ;)

You could also do 'The bear with the maiden fair'  :D

Here's illustration of Berne bear from Schilling's Chronicle - showing Morat IIRC.
Yes, Michael's bear appears tad on the 'heroic' scale, based on this picture, but then you'd select the biggest, meanest one to take on campaign wouldn't you?

Exit, pursued by a bear.

A familiar feeling, I believe.

Wot the duke and the captain said. If you were waiting for medieval Swiss I guess it's a big deal, and they're still better than a lot of others out there. (It's still the Perrys, after all.) But otherwise, yeah, okay.

But by that token I'd like a better look at that bear. See if it outdoes Reaper's 'dire' variety.

Also, I have a feeling that bear in Schilling's chronicle is a bit like those pics of St. George impaling a dragon about the size of a corgi. Not to say the model isn't a bit over-large for a European brown bear, but if you were looking for something accurate to that painting you'd be looking for a bear cub. :)

...so long as I felt confident the bear wasn't going to maul _me_! (Something tells me that if the sculpted bear felt like turning on his handler, the handler would be a gonner.

Which Schilling volume are you getting these terrific illuminations from? I have a hardbound version of the "Lucerne Chronik" I picked up  at a Freiburg bookshop years ago. I'd love to add to the collection and many of the pics you post I've never seen before.

Cheers,
Fred

Now there's a thought.... back in a second!

Nope.... nothing on Amazon under the searches of Schilling and Lucerne.... man I'd love to own that book!

Do you have an ISBN for it please Fred?

I've got the collection of images on my old (now powered by horses  lol) laptop which will just about still work at a snail's pace but I really have to transfer the files over. Regardless, I'm of the 'old school' in these matters and would really prefer the book.

Darrell.

Hi Fred
Some of them are on-line - have been for a little while now - 3 volumes of 'Amtliche Chronicle' and 'Spiezer Chronicle".
You can lose a weekend looking thru these!
Link is here: http://www.e-codices.unifr.ch/en/list/bbb/Shelfmark/20/2

Enjoy.
Simon.

Thanks for the link, Simon. ;)

Darrell,

http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luzerner_Chronik

Stumbled into it by accident at a collectible book shop around back of the Munsterplatz in Freiburg back in 2001. It was a haul to get back to the US as it weighs a solid 5-10lbs. Definitely one of the gems of my book collection. Printed in Middle German (very close to Yiddish).

Simon is right, you can get lost looking through all the illuminations.

Cheers,
Fred

I will squeal this to the twins next year in Hamburg or you have to come again! Or I get a place to play with malamute on your fantastic table at BLAM.
Back to the figures: I saw this before the perries did it from Mr. Hicks for Pro Gloria Miniatues (now Warlord). So, a little bit late....
