A Failed Sabotage Attempt
« on: May 11, 2015, 08:44:35 PM »
The led lights gleamed down on Samwell.  As Keiko walked in her view of him was from just above and the 8 lights looked like a halo above the man's head.

He was sitting in a chair, his uniform was ripped where he had been shot and the uniform had been cut away.  The bandaging covered almost all of the skin.

"As I understand it, all you feel obliged to give me is your name, rank and serial number."

"That is right, ma'am," the fusilier said.

"We could just pull the information from your cube,  you know," said the Kempetai.

Samwell reached up and scratched his nose.  "I guess you will do what you have to do."

The Kempetai looked up at the Invincible standing behind Samwell, his sword, held in two hands was raised to swing down suddenly and fatally if necessary.  It was rare that Yu Jing interrogators felt the need to cuff their prisoners.

"Would you be more comfortable if my friend here left," Keiko said.

Samwell nodded.

The hum of servos moved across the room and then became inaudible as the door closed behind him.

Keiko crouched down in front of the man.  "Look,  you like shit, I'm part of the resistance here.  Tell me what happened and what you were going for.  While we might not be on your side, exactly, we are giving the Heavenly Emperor his fair share of trouble."

Samwell was startled.

"I  honestly can't tell you much," he said, "The objective was classified and I saw the two troops we had that knew what we were supposed to be doing get killed."

"I'll tell you what I know."

"We left the ship about 6 miles off shore and came in with six of us on a dinghy.  The Cutter was keeping up with us until we got close to the shore then it sped up and stalked out of the water. Svaughn, she was the Kamau, was keeping up with us too."

"We hit the beach with her.  We needed to get her or Ned to some point about half a mile in-land.  I don't know what was there.  They would, but like I said, they are dead."

"It is still amazing seeing the water streaming off of the cutter and then just see a hazy form move along."

"It moved up to the shanties by the junkyard and took up an over-watch position."

"We moved up.  Shvaughn was going to get into the river and swim up to near the location.  If she didn't make it somehow, we were supposed to sneak in with Ned."

"Carrie and I moved into the graveyard.  We rested our weapons on the walls and scanned the ground that our people would have to cross."

"Shvaughn moved behind us and was moving down the steps to the water.  Some guy in front of her got mugged, then the mugger turned around, saw her and ran."

"It was dark out but there were a bunch of civilians around.  We didn't know that some of them were LMDs."

"The next thing I know one of the women looking over the side of the bridge has a Mk12 pointed our way.  Before anyone could react three shots rang out and I saw Shvaughn drop just to my left.  Even in the darkness I could see she was hit badly.  She wasn't moving at all.  Carrie and I opened up on the shooter.  I tagged her pretty good in the head and we could see the glint underneath the fake skin.  It was an LMD."

"Carrie opened up on it then and the HMG smashed the thing to pieces.  Civies went running everywhere."

"To our left we could see an air car drop out of patrol and start heading towards us.  Carrie and I started shooting at it.  The cutter stayed invisible."

"The rest of the team started moving up with Ned.  It was difficult to get any real concentration of fire on the air car as we were watching the civilians too.  We didn't want to just start indiscriminately gunning them down but any of them could have been LMDs."

"The air car dropped down just on the other side of the bridge.  Carrie did plink it pretty good."

"We heard the sound of the rear ramp hit the concrete and then there was a burst of machine gun fire with some shots from combi-rifles.  I guess the Cutter had caught them as they were coming out."

"Just then though a Dragonfly screamed past and two forms dropped out of it right in the center of the shanties."

"There was more machine gun fire and that is when everything went to pot."

"Our team was moving past towards the North bridge when they got hit.  I saw them go down.  They returned fire a little bit but it wasn't enough.  The L.T. went down.  Sarah moved back and then we saw her get shot down.  We were shooting as much as we could but the bridge was in the way."

"We were trying to get a shot at the guy on the bridge that got Sarah but we couldn't hit him."

"Then the Cutter came up behind the guy and drilled him into the  bridge with his machine gun."

"The Cutter looked like it had sustained some damage.  I'd imagine that the two drop troops that engaged it looked somewhat worse."

"A rocket streaked past the cutter at that point.  It was another LMD.  The Cutter engaged it and took it out, then turned and picked up Sarah and started moving towards us."

"I guess your guys must have got back in their air car because it lifted off and started moving towards us too."

"It landed behind us. The cutter ran past us towards the dinghy with Sarah in its left arm.  Just then I saw an explosion from one of the civilians and a rocket flew straight at the Cutter, the explosion blasted the cutter to the ground, it's left arm went flying off.  It must have hit right where Sarah was."

"Carrie and I then engaged the LMD.  I had thought about rescuing the guys still down at the bridge.  I could see there was no help for Ned but the L.T. and Chris may have been alive still."

"That thought was abandoned at that point, I'm ashamed to say.  I just wanted to cut that LMD down and pull back to the dinghy.  I clipped it a couple of times but it got Carrie, I was still firing from behind the wall when it hit me."

"That is all I remember."

"I can't tell you what was in the place Shvaughn and Ned were supposed to go."

Keiko stood up from where she had seated herself across from Samwell.

"Your account matches everything we learned from our agents.  It is unclear what the objective of your mission was. I don't doubt that you don't know what it is.  Even your lieutenant didn't know.  It is a shame that the two specialists died."

The door opened and a Pheasant rank celestial stood there.

"Very good, Keiko," she said, then turned to Samwell who looked somewhat shocked, "You will be moved to a prison until an exchange can be arranged."

With that the two Yu Jing warriors left the room and the halo went out leaving Samwell in the darkness.

Good story, and it sounds like you had a good game too! :)

What scenario did you play - a custom one?

The scenario was that the Pan O forces had to get their hacker (the Kamau) or their engineer (the machinist) into a secret base that Yu Jing was operating in Hong Kong.  They basically had to move across the table to the air vent on the far side and one of them had to move into it.

The Yu Jing forces had three Karikuri special project models with the disguise ability.  Plus the balance of 225 points limited to LI and MI troops and no heavy weapons.  They would have an air car but could only come on once the Karikuri spotted any of the Pan O troops.  The Karikuri (LMDs) were moved randomly along with the other civilians, moving 4 inches until shooting started then moving 8.  They had to move like this until they revealed themselves.

The Pan O player did not know where they were at all.

The first one to pop up happened to shoot the Kamau and waste her.  The Yu Jing player didn't know what the Pan O objective was.  We played that the troops didn't even know the base was there.  It was that secret.  The machinist bought it later.

A secondary objective for Pan O was to escape.

That didn't happen either.
