A Variety of VSF Conveyances
« on: May 20, 2015, 05:01:23 PM »
A couple of toys converted to VSF. The stagecoach is from Wild, Wild West. It was scaled more or less 35mm. I added the smokestack, boiler, top deck and the gatling on the front. The rivets I did as well. It's one of my older pieces from the 90s. The Locoautomotive is a toy whose lines I enjoyed. It was originally in purple and pink. Despite priming and copious amounts of paint it still has some bald spots. I envision it as a land runabout for a spark. The figures are 25/28s from RAFM, Foundry, Brigade Games, Mageknight, and Parroom station.

The Aetheric Carriage from the Golden Compass. The toy originally had a clear plastic disc with a blue bead for a front wheel. That piece was replaced with gears purchased at the charm section of a local hobby store. I used these gears on the Locoautomotive as well. This one's for Doug (the Beast) and Metternich who wanted to see brass gears on Bateson's Clockwork Camel!

There is something about that loco's lines isn't there. Nice conveyances.

It be an honor to be scalded and/or ground to death by an inevitable engineering flaw in contraptions of such artistry.

I have a few of the WWW coaches (ignore those comments about I have a few of EVERYTHING), and I delight in proof-of-concept that, with enough damn 'trash', it can be made useful. Excellent!

...This one's for Doug (the Beast) and Metternich who wanted to see brass gears on Bateson's Clockwork Camel!

Now, now, it WAS his comment, and I, though agreeing it would be a lovely touch, was quick to point out how much other great detail one should be seeing. Honest, I was just being gentle with him.  :D

That said, it's nice to be noticed.  And with such impressive work! ;)

The carriage is a handsome piece, but more than a bit daunting for any conversions, as I find with all diecast.

Thanks for the kind words gentlemen. Doug (the Beast) though the body of the Aetheric Carriage is die cast many of other pieces are plastic or rubber. The conversion on the piece came about when the front wheel came out of its rim and I lost it. The gears I had picked up at Michaels, a chain hobby store, on the premise I would find a use for it. Actuallly "I'll find a use for it' has been the driving philosophy behind most of my collecting. I think it stems from the early days in VSF when converting or creating out of bits and bobs was the only way of getting vehicles, ect. that went with the genre.

Understood!

Yes, I am a semi-regular at Michaels now that I tend to avoid HobbyLobby. Still an inspiration just walking down the aisles, imagining TOTALLY mis-using jewelry, plastic foliage, and other 'craft' items.  :D

Alas, you get SOME things done, of which I've whinged before...

Oh, merde, just recognized some of the repurposed Battle Master keeps. Well done!

Very nice work indeed.  I have that Golden Compass vehicle too, and never saw the possibilities in replacing the front "wheel."  You've certainly mae it even more VSF.
