Late Achaemenid persians
« on: May 23, 2015, 08:16:09 AM »
Hi everyone
I'm currently building a 28mm late Achaemenid army and have bought some of the foundry Steve saleh sculpts.
For those using the figures, what figures would one use as applebearers?
Per 23 has a cast on spear with a bulb on the bottom...
Per 20a and b are fabulous figures also - would you use them as kardakes?
Thanks in advance
Peter

I agree they are fine figures.

Used Per 20 A/B with Command as 'elite' Kardakes as I already had Melophoroi (Warlord sparabara with hoplite shields) - these will become satrapal guards once my Sgt Major and Black Tree Melophoroi are painted.

I think 20 A/B would be best as your Guard.  Sgt Major Miniatures make proper Persian spears with the globe butts.

Shame Foundry sold out of their heavy cavalry as they were excellent figures.

If you sign up to Black Tree Miniatures as a Premium member (free) you get good discounts.   Picked up some Persians at 30% reduction.   Their hoplites are also good figures - you will need hoplites to give your Persians some decent heavy infantry.

Good army that needs some thoughtful use on the battlefield.

Thanks for the tips Garry. I will follow them up.
You can get persian HC from foundry. Send them an email.
Also look on ebay UK - I think casting room miniatures- they have the foundry persian hc every now and then

Thanks Peter

I did get some of the Heavy Cavalry (armoured horse) and Generals from Casting Room and they are nice sculpts.    Have also used other companies' 28mm figures - Battlestandard (US firm), Essex, Sgt Major, Tin Soldier, Warlord and Wargames Factory (plastic).

Wargames Factory have plastic Persian infantry sprues at a very good price - maybe not the best figures in the world but a good size and can be Kardakes, Takabara and bowmen.  With the old fashioned spara they could also act as levies in the later period.  After a coat of paint they are fine.

Good luck

Garry
