Author Topic: Gi Joe Cobra Trooper miniatures (Cobra Command almost complete)?  (Read 9297 times)

As many before me, I wanted to buy two squads of Victory Force Wehrwolves, but the shipping cost is 25$ to Europe. Too much for just 10 miniatures, without considering that probably the custom office will kill me when the miniatures will arrive :(

So I'm considering an alternative for good cobra troopers.

Assault Group, Russians:

or

or

Crusader germans

However I'm not fully satisfied with these miniature.
Have they a good size? I should use them with the East Riding Miniatures Cobra Commander and some Reaper and RAFM Miniatures too.

Somebody have better suggestions? Thanks.

Maybe some Eureka Afghan Russians?  I think masked faces are required though.

Surely someone makes a decent "not" Cobra trooper.

Why not use plastic bolt action miniatures? Then you can replace the weapons with sci-fi ones easier (separate arms) and it will also be easire to mask the faces while the heads are on the sprues:

I yet seen the Eureka Miniatures, but they have an armored jacket over the uniform and could need time to arrive in europe (Fighting 15s sell them but if they are not yet available in their stock it will need about 8 or more weeks) they seem not so cheap too, about 3 euro each.

I knew about the bolt action plastic germans too, but I don't like them and plastic :(

For a while I considered the wargames factory germans too, but same problem with the BAM:

I noticed on your other thread that you have some ideas for Crimson Guard. If you make some CGs you wouldn't need regular Cobra troops. As I remember it, the Crimson Guard replaced the regular troops, and you didn't see them together very often.

And I know it isn't cheap, but have you considered the Shapeways Arctic Skunk HISS tanks?

(Honest, I'm like a pusher for these things.)

Thanks Michka I've seen several time your topic about cobra & gi joe and it is really useful :)
My idea is a pulp alley league, so I want two gang squads of cobra troopers (each with 5 models), two crimson guards as allies (and bodyguards of the CC), cobra commander (yet painted) and storm shadow as sidekick (using the RAFM ninja but including an arrow in the left hand and a quiver in his back).

The cobra hiss tank is really superb, but now it cost 40 euro(!). I remember its cost was about 29$ (yet not so cheap), what's happen?  :-X

I'm really annoyed that I could not buy the Victory Force Wehrwolves, yes I COULD but the idea of spend 25$ of shipping cost just for few miniatures offends my poor wallet :(

Puppet's War have a set of heads that could pass for cobra troopers.

They are sized for WH40K Imperial Guard bodies.

Would the copplestone castings hostage rescue team be any good? I can't see the detail too well on my phone but I think they have the right style covered faces?

Mh, not bad, I should consider them too, just adding an helmet and they could be nice too. Thanks for the suggestion :)

I could cut the heads too and include a german head from WW, doing the mask with green stuff too:

From what I was told, Shapeways changed the way the charge for models. While a few smaller items actually went down in price most things of, say the size of a tank, went up quite a bit. I had planned on getting more HISS tanks, but with the price increase I'll be happy with the three I have already. Hell, I still haven't painted the last one yet, so I'm not in any hurry.

Glad to see another G.I.Joe project. I look forward to seeing how it comes out. Pulp Alley is a perfect game for that too.

Maybe one day I will buy the Hiss tank too, just one however ;) Hoping that meanwhile the price will not increase again, of course :-X

but for now my priority are my two Pulp Alley leagues for the Vinadio Comics event (still two months, so I've time), I yet BIN on evil bay snake eyes (the reaper miniature, of course) and timber (a ral partha wolf) as gi joe PA league and storm shadow (RAFM ronin ninja), cobra commander is yet ready now I must find a good choice for those damned cobra troopers.

More I look to the copplestone casting hostage rescue team and more I think that they could be fine cobra troopers. If there is not a better choice I will take these ones.  o_o
Some of the miniatures have enough space on the torso to paint the cobra logo too. If the WW germans heads are not too smal, they could fit well too.

Maybe I've find a temporary solution. I need some cobra troopers for the Pulp Alley demo games I'm planning at Vinadio Comics in 25-26 July.
So for now I could just paint some Void VASA Marines I yet have as cobra troopers:

I'm looking at them, and they seem have similarities with the cobra troopers from the cartoon ;)

Maybe just changing the heads (or jut try some easy conversions on the helmet) and add some "braces" with green stuff ;)

so I could have some nice, cheap (because I've yet them) cobra troopers soon and meanwhile find a better choice :D

Empress's Russians with masks could make fun Cobra troopers.
