US Landship
« on: June 01, 2015, 01:08:37 PM »
US Landship. The ship is based on a 1:32 snap together M3 Lee tank model. I've always liked the M3 chassis. The asymmetrical gun turret and flat sides always made the tank look like it was from an earlier time. The conning tower is made from a plastic pepper grinder, the upper deck is a lid from a small cardboard box, the smoke stack and gatling are plastic bits. The figs are 25mm from RAFM and 28s from Pulp Figures.

Taken in my view one of the ugliest tanks of all time and made it look good. Well done.

You have the equipment and the crew to give the miscreants "what-for".

Very well done painting.

Equally impressive modeling.

Yeah, a Grant tank gets a new life, it's all good.

I've always been rather fond of the old M3 Grant/Lee myself. Perhaps it is Bogart's fault (Sahara).

Nicely done, old chap.

Had to do a bit of research, but from what I can tell, it's Lee if 'merican turret, Grant if Brit. As this doesn't have a turret, I suppose we should just call it a 'Bobby Sam.'  :D

I generally have some issues with tanks so iconic being retro-ized, but it's REALLY starting to grow on me.

And, yeah, always looked archaic anyway.  lol

Doug, you are an evil man. Now I can't get that thought out of my head. It could be glorious. But I haven't the skills or the time. Said time currently being spent looking at internet fora rather than slapping paint on lead.

I come to this Thread late and must chastise the Beast for not mentioning it to me. Awesome job ny the way. I too have a Lee in this scale that I use for the Americans. Not as glorious as yours but along the same line. I'll post a couple of pictures of it later this evening.

The model I used was a 1/48th scale so it's not near as big as your landship. It does get the job done though.

That is some very nice work VSF Gamer. The turret adaptation is particularly well done. I thought about twin smoke stacks but I got lazy. The lived in look of your tank is quite effective. Thanks for sharing!

I was I could claim the credit but a very good friend of mine made it for me. He builds German WWII tanks as a hobby and when I asked him if he would do this he said yes. I let hime have a free hand with it and was very pleased how it turned out.
