I went for dark brown on The Knights of the Oblong Table... ;)

The brown does not convince me completely. Your bases seem to look sand toned with grass and the gaming surface looks like a grass mat too. I think I would in fact have preferred green edges in that case.

Very nicely painted figures and the banners are superb.

Bases seem to polarise people, you can only do what appeals to you.

My only thought would be if you want to hide the side of the base have you considered taking the basing  texture and colour down the sides as well as on top of the base?

I like my miniatures being "framed" by their bases. That looks better off table when on display, I think.
I believe I will be sticking with the khaki edges on these. Repainted all of them yesterday and will do that on my formerly finished crusaders and pirates too (basically all those based on "sand")...

Thanks to all for opinions and advice! This is why I like the LAF that much.  :)

To be fair they don't convince me much either, I just wanted away from that seventies green look! The gaming surfaces are blocks of polystyrene, green one one side and desert coloured on the other, they look a bit cartoonish but kind of fit the old skool' style wargamin I've gone back to! Here's the terrien thingys turned over for a Crudator and Saracen tonking match...

There´s not too much difference, I think. Therefore I take that it works now. However I thought about grinding the base down to make it thinner.

Thanks!

I kept on painting the edges khaki now:

One point worth of Saga:

And another point:

Now my mounted Templars alone assemble an army of 5 points in Saga terms. 1 point for each detachment of four knights and 1 point for the eight sergeants. Together with the sergeants on foot that´s 7 points already. I have to do a few crossbows too to have a little choice for composition of my "task force Jerusalem"...

Very nice painting! Interesting to see one of the other Crusader States' heraldry in miniature, you usually only see the knightly orders and the Kingdom of Jerusalem.

I noticed that I have no desert terrain pieces to provide a bit of LOS blocking, therefore I built a simple rock formation from canned PU-foam and sand to play a little Crescent&Cross next week...
