Age of Sigmar or Sci-Fi conversion fodder?

Age of Sigmar has been properly revealed and all I thought about it was... Those would make good Adeptus Custodes...

So, what is Age of Sigmar?  Anyway the conversion looks tops.  I would prefer some flowy head-dress...for some reason that's what I think of when I think Custodes.  Maybe just some old Blanch artwork stuck in my head.  But the rest is absolutely tops.

I have already ripped the helmet plume off and am in the process of adding the cone head

I want to keep the guns separate from the halberd and also keep the backpack (it's not 'fluffy' but I am using some poetic license ) but I will aim for something that resembles a Custode mostly...

I looked at a few other pics...and the figure you're using is really really damn close to the Custodes illustrations.  Shockingly close.  Well spotted.  It's also pretty cool that they're darn near 40mm too.

Conversion looks great but it certainly doesn't look GW (apart form the helmet and bolters)

Awesome conversion.  My FLGS was closed today for July 4th so I have to wait to get the WD.  Anyone who wants to know what Age of Sigmar is about just go over to Dakka.  They are having a 200 plus page meltdown over this.   I love that this is the first thread I've seen on the LAF.  I love this place.

That was my first thought too 

Got to handle the free figure today... It's awful! The figure is smooth, very little detail at all and the edges are rather soft, as evidenced by the other plastics used in the above conversion (which I think will look great with a cone head ). The worst part however is the shield arm, it has a locator point recess on the arm... But no corresponding locator on the torso, just a completely smooth piece. This wouldn't be too bad ordinarily but the shield prevents the arm from sitting flush against the flat part, presumably because there should be a locator point there to join too! End result is a tiny contact area that is rather weak and the back of the join is a gap that defiantly needs filling.

However, I agree that the head could be be improved. I'm wondering if a head from the swordmasters in the 8th edition starter kit wouldn't fit the bill better (the one with the face mask), even if it could be a tad small.

As luck would have it, the Beasts of War Weekender made mention of this today, so now I know what you're talking about.

The Chaos guys look absolutely dreadful (140% over the top and skull-laden as usual) but I can't help think they're good 40K fodder too...

These are frankly silly ... I'd be hard pressed to find any use for them.

I have no argument with that.  I'd say they're the worst GW thing I've seen in ages, but I don't follow their products...so I'm sure something else has been worse.
