My God! Maiwand! 66th (Berkshire) Regiment of Foot
« on: July 07, 2015, 08:30:45 AM »
Hi,

Here's the finished article of the 66th (Berkshire) Regiment of Foot at Maiwand. I've had a lot of fun putting this together and I hope that you enjoy the pics as much as I  painting the models.

The terrain piece has served as a nice piece to show off the models and the backdrop was a result of my Google Foo.

You are invited to see more images of the 'diorama' and individual pics of each model on my Shooting Leave Blog HERE:

Very nice Darrell.  :D

Nice Khaki. Are you going to add the colours once Mike gets round to releasing some?

Excellent as always, Darrell, the little dog is a nice touch. I seem to remember  that the Officers had the Colours wrapped around their bodies in the famous painting of the last stand , so maybe a job for the Milliput.  >:D

You might be thinking of the last stand of the 44th at Gandamak.

Lovely painting there.

Thanks for all the positive feedback guys- very much appreciated  :)

Yeah, I'm glad that I don't have to paint all that red! although grey might be nearer the mark as they would undoubtedly have had what's left of their Greatcoats on.

Maiwand was a few years later  ;) :)

Sweet looking figures.
Really like them.
I am taken by the painting of the rifles.
Very well done.
Also saw your General Roberts on your blog.
He looks spot on.

Very nice work!

Are they all Artizan as-is, or was there some converting going on?

Thanks to everyone :)

Thank you. The credit cannot go to me though as I just applied the paint, It was a conversion that was done by a client and simply posted to me.

No for once there was no converting involved I'm (almost  :) ) pleased to say!

Congratulations Darrell, these are really well done. I particularly like the rocks as well. On the blog you say you used Milliput, was this to join bark pieces together or just to bed them onto the base. I tried some of these a while ago but they came out nowhere near as nice as yours.
When we first released Principles of War (20 years ago!) we did Maiwand as a demo game at various shows. A very interesting battle.

I used some old Grey Stuff that I bought about eight years ago and was thoroughly 'off'. Yeah, it was to join the rocks to the base and I used it to fill the gaps and preseed the sides of wet bark into the grey stuff to model the same type of rock formation. I hope that's clear(?) :)

Yeah, a blunder on behalf of the British forces of mammoth proportions really! I plan on doing Maiwand as a demo game but I'm waiting for the Perry plastics for the NWF before attempting it. I'm going to use the Artizan/Studio/Foundry models for skirmish gaming only as I think that the Perry's will produce a wider range of mini's.
