Painted Perry Samurai General
« on: October 31, 2008, 10:26:15 PM »
Hi all!

Long time no post so heres a pic of a recently finished Perry Samurai. I really want an army or even a skirmish force of these guys painted but i dont think my sanity could take it! They are amazing sculpts full of detail but they take so much effort to paint...

I can only try  o_o

Thanks for looking!

That's complete madness! :o
Since I know the size of this model, I can't imagine how you have done those tiny characters on the apron. Absolutely stunned.
Please, don't sell them again, at least not before you'll have completed a small skirmish party - such like the Seven Samurai.

Yay, great paint job! He sure is beautiful! I've been wanting to get some Perry Samurai for a while now (the ones in everyday clothes especially) and pictures like this make me want them even more. :P

..... but well worth the effort!

Absolutely gorgeous.

Sadly I'll never reach the standard to do Samurai models like this justice.  :'(

Lovely, I especially like the face, very expressive. :)

Thanks for all the comments guys, always good to hear what people think!

With regard to the way i paint skin, i used the method that Steve Bowerman created.

Foundry Spearshaft A
Foundry Flesh A
Foundry Tan A + Foundry Flesh B
Foundry Flesh B
Foundry Flesh B + any ivory colour (I use P3 Menoth White Highlight)

Thanks Again!

RJ, it's a measure of the Perrys' brilliance at naturalistic sculpting (although I confess I have previously been known to suggest they sometimes err on the side of squatness), and your excellent, subtle painting, that unlike almost all the painted wargames figures one sees (including all mine!), if you squint ever so slightly at the picture of your painted model, it could actually pass for a photograph of a real person.

For a 28mm wargames figure, that is very hard to achieve - mainly because we've all been conditioned into liking a certain 'caricature' style of sculpting, and an equally exaggerated, layered style of painting, which - whilst very pleasing to the wargaming eye - is nonetheless not remotely reminiscent of real life.

Your paint job on this model manages to overcome that barrier.
Which I think is a serious achievement.
Hats off.
