Tales From The Twilight Trail!!! (1/10/15 Fifth Episode!!!)
« on: August 31, 2015, 05:31:36 PM »
(Deep voiced intro, glints in black and white of people in old west attire, riding, shooting and fighting, interspersed with howls, many tentacles and shrieks and blood and gore)

The Civil War is over, but the four years of bloodshed where brother stood against brother has left scars running much, much deeper. Somewhere a door that was better left locked and bolted opened, and the nightmares and the dark fairy tales became real. In the vast nation, shadows can take on substance and monsters prowl in the night time hours, an almost perpetual dusk reigns and mankind is the prey. THIS is...

TALES FROM THE TWILIGHT TRAIL!!!!! (suspenseful music and fadeout)

The first AAR for my new little project, mixing horror/ supernatural with the old west. I am using THW's Six Gun Sound and All Things Zombie: Total Fade Out and have expanded on the Attributes (Grit, Shooting, Fighting, People, Horsemanship and Outdoorsman).

Much fun was had, I DID groan when John had the chance to plug the madman not once, not twice, but THREE times before he would bury the axe in him, but rolled mediocre (2's all the way). Another VERY close call was when he did get Spider Webbed and failed to roll the 2+ successes on Fighting to get out, but failure to activate by the spiders came very handily just at that moment!!! I had determined that the big spider would try to Web John first before moving in, enjoying an easy kill instead of having to fight him outright, letting the wee ones doing most of the 'legwork'  lol lol!

In accordance with my simple Experience System, John now gained an XP and has put it into a much needed Shooting. His stats are now:

Grit 4 (5 for Fear and Sorcery)
Shooting 4
Fighting 3
People 3
Horsemanship 3
Outdoorsman 4

Strong Willed: Grit +1 in terms of Tests for Fear and Sorcery, NOT activation
Night Owl: John has exceptional night vision, a minimum of 12" LoS at all times of day.

Six shooter
Knife
Horse (Quality 4)

Next episode he will come across an abandoned village... or is it???? Stay tuned  :D

Cheers mate, high praise indeed from the guy that inspired me to do this  :). I sometimes get carried away with my 'narrative' and I am glad you enjoyed it.

Cool report, thanks for the heads up!  I'm looking forward to the next report.  Are your solo rules available?

Cheers mate, I enjoy doing the write-ups, and sometimes they take as long as the game itself to do  lol.

The rules I use are definitely commercially available, I have just tweaked them a little, to add flavour and for my own special rules. They are my personal 'go to' rules for solo play, as it's integrated in the engine. It's Two Hour Wargames Six Gun Sound (old west rules) and All Things Zombie: Total Fade Out. They both use the same engine, and with very minor tinkering they overlap nicely.

http://www.twohourwargames.com/chrefive.html (FREE copy of the basic Reaction Engine)

http://twohourwargames.com/sixgunsound.html (just noticed they are in the process of updating that ruleset so will keep my eyes out)

Hope the links help,

Legionnaire.

Chain Reaction are a great mechanism and fun to play, although I prefer Chain Reaction 2 to the latest edition. They work well as both a multi-player game or solo play.

I've used them to play 19th century Colonial, Wild West, WW2, Modern Cops & Robbers, Zombies, Stargate, Star Wars and Starship Troopers (a bit of a "Star" thing going on there lol).

Great Story-telling.
The story is fun to read and i enjoy the horror/fantastic part in it.
So John somehow survived his first encounter, but this couldn't be the last story we hear of him, could it?  ;)

Btw: The Background-Story of John Stormcrow is awesome (for all who missed it you can read it in Legionnaire's older post, right here: http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=81608.0).

Thanks a lot mate, glad you enjoyed it and let me know you did, much appreciated  :).

I have always had an active imagination and I believe strongly in having FUN playing my games, whatever the outcome may be, win/ lose it doesn't matter. I also enjoy cooking up a story as the game goes along, my figures get some kind of personality as I play etc, which only adds to the fun bit.

You are quite right Yggdrasil, I have at least the next four episodes almost figured out in my head and I am awaiting a small batch of minis (Crooked Dice scarecrows, Westwind's Winged Fiends and Werewolves) to arrive and paint up as well. So it should at least be FIVE parts, perhaps more if I get inspired  :D.

Cheers for your input and I will keep you notified when the next game is up, probably not until next week though.

Legionnaire.

Thanks for this, I enjoyed the read. Exciting story line but with atz that's to be expected. Well done and crack on with the next game.
Are you the Legionnaire that posted the games about Amos cross and zeb turvey some while ago probably on the 2hour site or forum. I was reading them again last night, inspiration for restarting western gaming again.
Thanks

Thanks a lot mate, really happy you enjoyed the story.

Yes, I am indeed, but I believe it was posted by Ed and not sure it was the whole story line, I will try to dig them up and send you the links.

A good read, mate.
You certainly have a knack for this kind of thing.
