I just realized that I forgot to post pictures of the knight leading the foot sergeants.
I tried to paint him in red armour. I mixed red paint with a metal medium and finished with red washes.
How would you paint colored armour?
I rather like the red armour, but if you are after getting a red metallic look I'd try some red ink over a bright silver. Using a red wash isn't as effective because it isn't transparent enough and the metallic sheen doesn't shine through properly.
Alternatively, for a warmer red, try making a light gold base (adding a little bright silver to a bright gold), and then inking over with a clear red.
Finally, you can actually buy red metallic paint - as in
red, not a bronze or copper. I'm pretty sure that Reaper, Vallejo, and Coat D'Arms all make such a paint. This a lot more pigmented than adding metallic medium to a red paint or ink yourself, and it lets the armour look more lacquered. Whilst the metallic red may look a bit bright, there is nothing stopping you shading it with ink or a wash as normal (I think a soft sepia ink could add a bit of warmth and shading).
Hope that gives you something to mull over if you fancy trying red armour again!
