Presidial Troopers - The enemies of Zorro!!!
« on: November 09, 2008, 10:37:48 AM »
Once again crossposting here and the Old West board.(Spiritually here, but geographically there!) lol

More of Matthew Bickley's superb sculpts.

Introducing the Presidial cavalry garrisoned  throughout Texas, California, New Mexico etc.
The traditional enemies of Zorro, or Texian rebels, or Commanches or Apaches or anybody else you care to mention.

The dashing Captain Alforno - in love with the Governors daughter..

Here he is mounted. (the horse is a WIP and needs mane, tail, tack etc.)

Sargento Garcia - His inept and overweight right hand man...

Sargento Garcia Mounted:

Troopers - drawn from the humblest, poorest peasants of both Mexican and Indian stock. Brave, hardened fighters, capable with lance, sword or Escopeta:

Each trooper has a mounted version, open handed ready to add a lance.

Comparison shot with an Artizan Alamo defender:

Finally a close up of Sargento Garcia:

I would have liked to have these ready for sale before Christmas along with Zorro, but it looks like it will be early in the new year, by the time they are cast, ther horses finished etc.

Matthew is about to start on my next pack- a group of Tejano or Mexican Vaqueros- wearing traditional riding dress, Serapes, ponchos, low crowned Sombreros etc, armed with a mixture of muskets, flintlock rifles,Escopetas and pistols. All will have mounted and dismounted versions.
They will be suitable as bandits, Texian cavalry, early Texas Rangers or enemies/allies of Zorro.

After that the evil Governor, his beautiful daughter and some American interlopers...

Especially Sgt Garcia. He's absolutely spot-on.  :-*

Well, it's closer to Napoleonic era really. Sure you can't squeeze it in somewhere? ;)

Quite right, JB.

And you'd only need maybe 20, or perhaps 30, possibly 40-50 figures, as it's only a skirmish game  lol

edit Ha! Just remembered I have a couple of dozen Apache loitering somewhere, so how can I possibly not buy some Presidials for them to massacre  :D

Also my birthday is in February, so if Malamute can get them released before then...........

Almost....

No true Scotsman almost gets started in something! He fully embraces awesome miniatures that catch his fancy, especially ones like this.

Well done Malamute, and well done Matthew Bickley! Sergeant Garcia is totally my favorite. I'll have to practice painting 5 o'clock shadow in preparation for him.

Okay, back to ogling pix.

Very very nice and as others say the Seargant is awesome. As with the previous ones I have absolutely no use for or desire to create a use for these but I think I will have to get some just to paint them.

Again I salute you sir.

Fantastic work! You didnt do them justice when we spoke about them yesterday.

Looks like I'm going to start work on a new period. Sigh! I feel a good old Mexican yarn coming on.

Excellent! I will have to add ome of these to my LotW Alamo Mexicans. they should fit in quite nicely with the Artizan infantry I already have. With the dismounted figures I will be able to use them for some skirmish games with Apaches, navaho, etc, as well as the odd Zorro inspired game :)

I am adding figures specifically for the Alamo period as well, sometime in the spring next year.
