WWII Commandos (caution! may contain yummy dip!)
« on: November 09, 2008, 10:28:11 PM »
Hello there.

I am not really sure why I am showing you these, with all the amazing "normally" painted miniatures in this forum, but I find that although they are dipped, the results are quite alright. These are the first section of my commandos for our Secrets of the Third Reich-Bellum Europa games. I am still missing my Commando but since we are playing 2 vs. 2, together with the Sherman they should be enough points. The Tank is a Corgi and 1:50. A bit bigger, but what the hey.

They have been dipped, so I can start playing asap and because I have been criticized (and they are right) that my painting takes forever and I always have to borrow painted miniatures for our games.  :D These guys where painted in batches of 2s and 4s and 4 of them took about 2 hours. I am using the strong tone dip and Rustin's Varnish to take away the shine. The next section with helmets will be painted the "normal" way. Now I got time.  ::) The bases will be changed a bit tho. Not really happy with these. I went for a muddy look, but somehow I am missing structure.

The hedgehogs, sandbags and barbed wire are scratchbuilt.

The guy with the Bren is my favourite. The sculpt has an amazingly bad-ass look.

Anyway... thank you for reading.

Those minis are great. I think you manage to achieve a pretty good level of painting despite the little time you had to paint them. I like the bases. I wouldn’t change them if I were you (just my two cents).  8)

Nice looking bunch of figures - Artizan (?) the dip certainly works on these fellows.

Very nice, especially the faces.  8)
I would be interested to see photos of the same minis pre and post dipping.
How much "lighter" do you need to paint them before dipping?

Thank you for your comments! Yes, indeed these are Artizan. And fine miniatures they are.

Well, Overlord, I still have to paint the 4 man Command and these will be dipped as well. I could try to create some kind of a before-after log. I could also let you know of the vallejo colours I am using. That could take a little while tho, as I am painting up a little house for our Western Europe setting. I hope I will have it finished by next week. But the darkening of the colours is not that extreme, since I am applying the dip with a brush. Hopefully it will show on photos.
