Excellent work, I particularly like the shields! I own some figures very similar to those I can see among yours who have very shallow hands for gripping spears, and I am always paranoid that the spears will break off. What brand of glue are you using?

Cheers Gibby.  :)

I'm using Ever Build, High Viscosity Superglue. Carefully. Not too much but not just a dab if that makes sense? I'm about to try out Gorilla Glue Heavy Duty Weld Epoxy on one spear and see how that compared with the superglue. If there's no appreciable difference I'll just carry on using the cheaper superglue.

Oh, I should add, I usually file a little more into the 'grip' of the hand with a fine needle file for insurance.

EDIT: I really should have pointed this out in  this post earlier, I think brain fog might be the reason...... most of the Footsore Miniatures have drill through hands which really makes a difference with the strength of the bond between spear and model.

Very nice!

Thanks Tonhel  :)

I love the Matthew Bickley sculpts!

They're quite something aren't they? They are certainly very distinctive. Definitely some of the most dynamic miniatures I've had the pleasure to paint. Some of the stuff he did for the Foundry Normans will be making an appearance at some point. They're all cleaned up, spears glued etc and just need an undercoat. Following a conversation with a good mate a couple of weeks ago I'll heading back over to the Early Byzantines for a good while. So it will be chiming in with the odd Anglo Danish unit which I intend to have finished, bit by bit, by the end of the Summer. :)

Darrell,

These are really superb. Brilliant work. I too really like the Matthew Bickley sculpts. I've got a set of the Anglo Saxons he did for Foundry sitting around unpainted and I really must get them painted soon. They're really nice figures too.

Darrell,

Thanks Paul. Praise indeed when I think of your TYW collections that has had me gawping in envy for many a year!

There really is something great about the Matthew Bickley sculpts. It's not just the dynamism, they paint up really well, but I found that there was a lot of hidden detail suck as the lining on the inside of the mail which was a delight to discover and paint! The extra detail on the helms, swords, leather belts/straps. It was obvious that Matthew has spent a lot of time studiously looking at the sources.

Footsore are releasing more very soon and I will be buying more Foundry sculpts too! It would be rude not to  :)

Cheers guys- all comments appreciated :)

I should have the unit based up by the end of today- fingers crossed- it's a pain carefully putting filler in the gaps of a base that is 40mm x 40mm with four (mostly modern) 28's on the base  lol

Time for a break and onto another project for a while I think :)

They turned out great.

Time for a break and onto another project for a while I think :)

Always a good idea to keep it fresh.
