Invasion Day
Entries from an abandoned journal belonging to Siggi Thoravallson;

Nov. 12
The evening news reported that unregistered cosmic storms were affecting the outskirts. Two robotic freighters disappeared from contact. There is no concern and they are expected to arrive late.

Nov. 13
Still no sight of the two freighters. Today the star liner, Kooku Maru, with twenty passengers suddenly disappeared while nearing orbit. A patrol vessel, SP Stalwart Star, was launched into space. There is an unconfirmed report that the star liner registered a SOS call prior to disappearing. The kmedia dug up old stories about space pirates. In the evening a freighter arrived from the sun ward side without incident.

Nov. 14
Several explosions can be seen in the dawn sky. Communications from the cities became erratic. The airwaves are mostly filled by static. A few news reports came through. These are garbled and fragmented but also alarming;  "A patrol vessel was shot at, U.F.O's sighted, Multiple unknown crafts entering orbit, Hostile intentions, Satellites are failing, The governor has mobilized the civil defence, Laser fire in the streets ahead!"

Nov. 15
Today only sporadic radio contact among neighbours is possible. People In our village gathered at the town hall looking for information. Mayor Walls knows very little. A handful of people head east to the nearby star freight port. The transmitter there is powerful, perhaps they will know more. They are joined by those who thought it prudent to take their vacation early and catch a flight off the colony. The mayor cautions against panic although the people are very anxious. Our sheriff, Officer Johnson, treks off to the district police HQ at Atomic Town to see if they have information. I agree with our mayor, we need to stay calm and support one another.

Nov. 17
The days go by quietly. No radio or tv signals. Robot transports continue to ply the highways as usual. Water and power service are normal. We have received no word from those who left for the star freight port earlier.

Nov. 18
All day we see small groups of cars fly speedily eastward. They ignore all attempts to be contacted. People once again gather by City Hall. Questions arise whether space pirates are conducting a giant raid. They will surely ignore this small village. Others are confident that the space police will have the situation under control soon. As a precaution, some suggest that we evacuate southeast to the big mines there. We could hide inside for months until help from Earth arrives. Then we all begin to wonder whether Earth have been contacted.

Nov. 19
In the early morning we hear faint explosions. In the distance several columns of black smoke arise. Many of us run out of the village to hide. By midday our confidence returns at the mayor's command. Next he commandeers the robotic trucks and orders everyone to pack the necessities required for a long wait inside the big mines.
Soon after groups of people begin arriving. Many are from the nearby village of Rocket Landing. They are heading south east as well. We are told that earlier today a flight of strange saucer like ships flew by there. They strafed the town causing minor damage. They targeted mostly the flying cars in their vicinity. This explains the earlier explosions. There were no survivors.
In the late afternoon a courier arrives with a message from Officer Johnson. We have been invaded by an unknown hostile alien race! There are reports that the invaders were killing people indiscriminately. Hundreds are dead! The space police were overwhelmed and shattered. The governor and cabinet have disappeared. Refugees are fleeing the urban centres in all directions. Random hit and run attacks by saucers are spreading. Enemy ground forces are moving out across the colony. We can barely believe or comprehend this news, but our growing fear and anxiety is real.
Officer Johnson is staying on at Atomic City. An ad hoc force of thirty local police and volunteers plan to make a stand there. Some hunters there were able to bring down a saucer and they believe that more success are possible. We were told to send down volunteers plus all the weapons from the police post.
The mayor said "no". We need the weapons for our own protection. By supper almost everyone head out southeasterly. A few trek east towards the star freighter port. Some boisterous young people remain. They plan to have one last dance party in the village.

Nov. 20
We travelled without event until midday. At Nu Haven we stop. A great crowd of refugees from all parts are gathered here. All are at a standstill. Rumours were rife that saucers were aggressively patrolling the road ahead.
Groups of people argued amongst themselves over what to do. Our mayor decided to continue straight ahead, as it was the quickest way to reach safety. He said that we can will travel by night and hide by day. I chose to follow the advice from our justice of the peace. She proposed that we travel parallel to but far away from the highway. Amongst the screaming, weeping and shouting throng, we wished our neighbours well and left.

Nov. 22
We encountered a small group of colonists. They were heading to the badlands, intent upon hiding there indefinitely. We shared information but suddenly they turned aggressive and demanded most of our supplies. Weapons were drawn and pointed towards each other. After a long moment cooler heads prevailed and someone shouted loudly to stop because we are civilized people. We gave them a third of our supplies and we parted ways. We were disturbed at how easily mistrust and desperation forms when survival was in doubt.

Nov. 24
We are hiding in a cave. At night we head out to the abandoned farmsteads and replenish supplies. If we continue this zigzagging pattern, we should reach the mines in a week. Alien saucers have been sighted but no contact made. Occasionally we see columns of black smoke along the horizon. Some poor soul caught in their sight. We hope that the people we know got through safely.

Again thank you for looking into my thread plus all the great comments. I hope this has been enjoyable as a comic book. The inspiration for the red eye on the small walkers are from AQotMF tripod. My large tripod was inspired about the same time as M. Beauchamp, owner of Hydra Miniatures. Excuse the poor photo quality, this is pretty much the limit I will be using.

I also missed this post. Great job! Will the people of Planetoid 51 make it though to see another day?

Thanks for all the interest and posts once again!

Brilliant! :-* The test pattern pads are a nice touch. Where did you get the lettering and lightning bolts for the sign?

Cheers. The lettering are a Plastruct product. The lighting bolts are made from stiff card.

I have too many ideas taking me into all sorts of directions. Here is some raw ideas.
...today's anti gravity technology has only a small weight lift capacity. Heavy freight still requires transporting by wheeled or tracked vehicles. These are robot driven thereby ensuring an efficient and quick delivery service.
