"The Factory" WIP's
« on: November 21, 2008, 10:24:53 PM »
Best to keep em all in one topic for ease of reference. When looking at these things think games like Fallout and Stalker. Some things look in need of a lick of paint, others will be a total loss.

WIP Oil Storage Tank (HO Model)

Think I have weathered the heck out of it, but I need to do the rust patches, moss, fungus and bring back the white again in places. Thing was in shambles when I got it, managed to repair it as well as I could but the pipes and what not were not recoverable sadly. Rebased on polystirol sheet.

That does not look like something I would like to be near in a strong wind.  lol

I think you did a great job with it.

Remains of the white paint plus the first rust added. Looks a bit safer but not much.  lol

Varnish and some flock next.

Looking even better. :) Perhaps we can have a photo of everything all set up, you must have the makings of a great gaming table coming together?

Modhail, you bastard, you know how I paint....chaotic, at random, with no discernable pattern  lol

Malamute: I have the layout of what I want in my head, but the precise nature is being dictated by what I can scrounge up second hand. Though the more pieces I am receiving, the more I can start to select what fits and what not.

So these:

I'm currently scrounging for, have my eyes on another 3, as they fit in with my idea.

As does the building on the left, though only 1 is needed.

Same goes for dockyard cranes, gantryworks, older style storage sheds and I'm now looking for more parts for my 20x40 cm ruined factory. In time, you will see. But I am not in any hurry :)

Yup, exactly the same way I do...  :D
And I know filling a table with buildings ain't easy.  :(

But I was thinking, with those parts of the bunker you've got painted, and the stuff you finished in the past, it should be possible to make a small single-unit skirmish set up, wouldn't it? An old abandoned base or storage facility or somesuch (Just use the bunker parts for the walls of buildings).
WWII occultists (possibly w. 1 or 2 bodyguards) vs monster, perhaps? If I recall correctly you've the figures for that...
Not meaning to nag at you, but just trying to "motivate"....

That tank looks great, but it needs graffiti! I used to live near a couple of derelict factories and there wasn't a single structure that wasn't covered with "tags" and "Joannie + Chachi TLA" garbage.

Also, don't leave many intact panes of glass. Chucking rocks at windows in abandoned factories seems to be mandatory.

Actually, it's not meant for an area with our modern European standards (aka graffiti and vandalism), more of a Eastern European abandoned look (aka Tsjernobyl area is the main theme). Graffiti, well, the texts anyway, are geographically different and give away too much. Besides, for a creepy factory in WW2 seeing a picture of Bomberman with HAVOC in neon green letters kinda ruins the effect of keeping buildings interesting but still useful for other periods.

It's not that I will not do some, heck, I love doing graffiti, but not for this project.

And I have painted broken glass before but I don't like doing it, it adds another step before I can finish a project, and I gloss black my panes cause it works and is fast. Immer schneller seems to be my motto lately  ;)

Ah, I missed the setting references as I am not a big video game guy. I take your meaning about getting things done quickly. It is far better to have a useable finished product than a half-finished "magnum opus"! If all of the buildings are painted and weathered as well as the oil tank you will still have one jaw-dropping table!

Fun piccie just for the looks.

Yes, the Iraqi BRDM-2 looks kind of lost.

Wayswatcher, you get more mileage out of your building kits than anyone, I think. Cheers to you.

One of the bigger pieces arrived for my complex today. I will work it over a bit, but from the looks of it, if you remove some of the walkways and add bigger stairs, it would be quite suitable for 28mm as well.

Even looks a bit menacing, if you let your imagination drift a bit.

(Figure is a 20mm figure for scale reference)
