Lord of the rings plastics and frostgrave metals scale?
« on: November 09, 2015, 10:10:49 PM »
With the seemingly imminent replacement of the lord of the rings range, i picked up box of middle earth rangers and corsairs of umbar to convert into frostgrave warbands (still doing 15mm, but i wanted these before they become impossible to find!)

Could anyone tell me how the lord of the rings plastics scale up with the frostgrave metals? (or the plastics, but less important.)

Many thanks in advance :)

Heightwise not far off but the lotr minis look less bulky next to the Frostgrave metals and plastics but should still work okay together

Joe posted this a bit back - it might help:

Perry / Gripping Beast / Frostgrave plastic / LOTR / Frostgrave plastic / Fireforge / Frostgrave metal

The rangers are among the bigger of the LOTR plastic so should work fine. Not sure about the Corsairs, but I would guess they would work well as well.

The early LotR sets were smaller and more delicately sculpted, but later sets (which includes the Rangers as well as the Corsairs) are noticably bigger - I also would expect them to mix with the Frostgrave models just fine.

Cheers chaps! those plastics seem to scale fine with the LOTR metals, which if i recall were about the size of the later plastics. Hopefully that meas the frostgrave metals should scale up well enough :)

As to the metal models, some of them do and some don't. I own all metal Frostgrave soldiers and a couple of wizards. Few of them are true giants when compared to the rest. I was dissapointed by the size and proportions of the marskman and particularly the Nickstarter knight (although they make pretty nice figures on their own). Most of the Frostgrave range are more realistic sculpts quite close to the standard LOTR minies.
As Joe has pointed out, even LOTR miniatures do vary in scale, so it depends. But in general, Frostgrave and LOTR fit together much better than to Warhammer :)
