Very cool!

I must confess I don't know much about the wars between the Italian city-states in this period. The spear-and-shield armament is rather unique for the 15th century, when everyone else was toting poleaxes, bills and pikes.... Or have I just overlooked it?

Not too sure on your 'colour on colour' question - but the website cited previously is the source for this.
Just need to reboot the Italian into Google translator and look out for the embedded links in the articles on Battle of Anghiari - lots of line drawings re heraldic devices - and assumptions on colours from contemporary illustrations (basically paint that's now showing as black is discolouration of green or blue, upon closer inspection).
Hope thats of some help?
Simon.

Many thanks... I really need to take a close look at that article! It's finding the time..... :(

With the colour on colour question I was trying to understand whether it was an Italian rule of Heraldry that you could place a colour on a colour (a big no-no in most Western European Heraldry) or if the shields represented a livery of some sort?

Very nice. Those paint jobs really pop. Great work on the shields.

Milanese light infantry basing is done.

Now working on mix of Perry plastic, metals and some converted Citadel Alcatani Dogs of War, for small pikebloc. Will try and post some progress in next 2 weeks.

I'd be interested in hearing how the Citadel Dogs Of War sculpts look alongside the Perry sculpts, especially in terms of height. There were some VERY nice models in that range, I'm guessing they were all done by the Perrys too.

They look great. Reminds me indeed of the part of the Battle of San Romano paintings shown in the Louvre.

Milanese 'lancia spezzata' contingent, as work in progress.

So I promised myself this would be rapid army build - but I've spent time on every figure here, either converting with metal add-ons or slapping on the green stuff!! They are based on elite men at arms from Milan ('broken lances'), as shown in the Florentine painted caskets in the Gallery of Ireland (c 1460), so that's my self-justification for spending so much time on them. Other units will need conversions, but working with putty is a gradual process - do a small bit, let it dry and return the next day, etc. The metal helm decors are from Mirliton and are taken from the outrageously large ones shown in Italian paintings of the period.

All perry plastics (apart from the captain). The standard bearer is a Light Cav conversion, with long riding boots and Italian cloak added. The green stuff added to the bard, are cloth coverings which will bear Milanese coats of arms. Some of the barding needs final attention (ie the joins across the rump of the horses). However, am happy with the Italianate/San Romano paintings look I was after.

Re earlier questions, all basing will be 50mm frontage (these are 75mm depth, as will be pikes) - so should be adaptable for many rulesets (I play rarely...).
Don't know when these will be getting any paints applied- it'll certainly be after the New Year, as spare time is bit thin now to end of year.
Cheers
Simon.

Those are really special, excellent work. Look forward to seeing them coloured in, in the new year.

Oh my goodness, some dedicated work there Simon, these are going to look fantastic and very much bursting out of a Renaissance fresco.

Brilliant Simon. They look menacing already. I'm sure you won't be able to resist lavishing your usual loving attention on these figures, and they'll be another spectacular unit to add to your collection.

Goodly work Simon  8) 8) 8)

Are the fathered crests available separately or does one have to buy a whole body for instance?

If they are available separately then they are just what I'm looking for re: Ravenna.
