When Time Lords go bad!
« on: November 28, 2008, 02:21:53 PM »
Been a while since I posted any pictures of my minis, so here's something fresh of the workbench - The Master, the Doctor's greatest nemesis! (Apart from the Daleks of course. And the Cybermen. And Michael Grade...) Anyway:

This is a BTD/Harlequin mini that came thrown in with an eBay purchase a few months ago. It's the Master as he appeared in the awful 1996 TV movie. I added a beard, because for my money the Master *has* to have a beard (sorry John Simm). And I played around with the colour scheme a bit from the TV version - I like to think this mini is channelling Ming the Merciless a bit!

Apologies for the lighting btw, it's a gloomy day here...

Like it.  8)

The beard really works ,and changes the whole look of the mini. Good idea.

Oh, and I quite like the TV movie. I guess somebody's got to.

Just noticed this thread  ::)

The beard looks great! As a fully paid-up member of the Goatee Club, they are essential for real villains - even though John Simm was the canine's testes as the latest version of the Master. Mad as a box of frogs!

If only Tony Blair had had a goatee.......  lol

I thought Derek Jacobi's Master was much better than Simms'. Shame he only got to do it for about five minutes.

You are absolutely right there, facial hair is a must have, especially if like me its the only place hair grows on your head these days, ::) unless you count the ears, or nose which I notice need constant trimming more and more frequently... lol

I liked the Tardis and Paul McGann's "Shelley" doctor (the poet not the miserable git from the 70s/80s sitcom) in the 1990s movie. Eric Roberts was pants though.

I thought Derek Jacobi's Master was much better than Simms'. Shame he only got to do it for about five minutes.

He was, as ever, excellent. One of our finest actors - I've been a massive fan since  I watched I Claudius as a Roman-obsessed nipper  8)

I agree he should have had more time and would have brought much more subtlety and depth to the role.

Simm makes a fine loon, though.

I just watched the Tennant/Simms Master stories on iPlayer a few days ago. Better than I remembered actually - enjoyed John Simms a lot more than I did the first time around, although the 'Doctor as Gollum' bit is still pretty bad. Almost made me regret last week's order to Heresy that included Doctor Hugh but not the Masterson mini. But one cackling bad guy is enough for me, plus I'm currently working on some Slitheen minis, so it's not like I'm short of pantomime villains...

My first thought was 'Stalin in a Robe'. That has it up and downsides, I guess.  lol

Nice work and paintjob  ;)
