Thanks for the comments  :)

I had a few problems with the photos myself as even after I uploaded them I could only see a few. I'll hassle the web hosting company as the whole site seems a bit flaky at the moment.

I was visiting Melbourne so I made a pilgrimage to the shop and saw them there, so I brought them. That was October last year and then they weren't in their catalogue then, but I'd suggest emailing them as they are very helpful.

Also your right about the brightness on the pictures. The hall we use is pretty dark so I had to adjust them so you could see the details.

We used the standard TSATF, not the DA variant. We did split some of them into ten men units as the 20 men units are a bit unweildly.

Cheers
Kieran

Hurrah!

Just got in from work and I can see the pics  :D

It is a fine looking game. You're right, the cloth is a bit dark but the important things like the figures and scenery are very good indeed!

I'm certainly looking forward to the next installment!

Hi all

Here's part two of the game report (one more part after this). Unfortunately as the game went on I got more caught up in it and didn't take as many photos.

The spearmen attack! The Askaris were in open order (not sure it that was strictly legal but nevermind) so I charged them with my DA unit. The Askaris held firm and waited until they could see the whites of the eyes before opening up.
Meanwhile the marine watch they attack. We agreed some of them could fire at the spearmen and they managed to caused a few casualties.

The aftermath. Technically the spearmen won the battle but they were reduced to below half strength, while the Askaris only suffered a couple of losses (the rest ran away).

The spearmen failed their morale and ran back into the jungle but were shot at by some Marines and a couple more were killed. The hungry wildlife ignored the routed spearmen and feasted on their fallen comrades.

The Askaris retreating. They managed to rally the next turn and tentatively moved forward but in a square formation this time.

One the other side was a shooting match between the Germans and Azande riflemen. The Askaris were in a bad position and couldnt fire through the terrain although the Marines were doing very well by themselves and the native riflemen were taking heavy losses.

Another unit of spearmen pop out of the jungle. They were hiding behind this piece of jungle trying to avoid the machine gun and marines.

Marines charge the gun. Little did the other player know that I'd run out of ammo (I rolled poorly for my ammo roll) so I wasn't too worried when the gun got overrun.

The Arab gun crew retreating. I managed to evade the German charge and the crew decided to see the safety of the village. Also I had a Arab rifle unit hidden in some ruins nearby and I was trying to lure the Germans over that way. Also in the background is another unit of spear which appeared from the village.

The final part soon

Cheers
Kieran

Couldn't agree more!

Looks like a great game and TSATF seems to be working well for you. I really like these rules, but the full version tends to need a lot of space to play it properly and I prefer other skirmish rules [eg T&T or GASLIGHT etc] for smaller games. Sadly I haven't played TSATF for several years, although I am tempted to try "The Sword In Africa" soon[ish].

IIRC, you are allowed to use skirmish order, but I think there is a max spacing of an inch or so between figures to stay "legal". I could, of course, have got this totally wrong.

Thanks all

It will be a few more days before i post the rest as I'm away from home at the moment.

I agree that you need a lot of space as the units take up a lot of room on the table. The next game I will try 10 men units as I think it will mean we can have more units on the same sized table, which should make it more interesting.

Cheers
Kieran
