Lost post - help
« on: December 30, 2015, 11:49:25 PM »
I have just spent a couple of hours composing a post. I did not take a copy of it. I attached some pictures which I subsequently saw were over the size limit. When I went to post the message I eventually got a message to say I had been timed out and my message had disappeared. Is there anywhere within the system that a copy will exist? Can anyone offer some help (rather than advice on the fact that I should have taken my own copy)

Suffice to say I am not enthused to try to recreate my posting.

Regards
Tim

In some boards it is possible to use the back-button and the browser still has it of some sort. Not here if I recall it correctly. However, if the post is not saved, the board does not know it, hence it is gone.

Some advice for the next time (no, not the copy it advice  ;D ): the timeout maybe came due to Your login-options. User login forever, then You shouldn't get logged out. Mabye Your other options within Your net-use do log You out, when there is no event in the browser or something. Check that, too.
best wishes

Sorry, nothing we (the moderating team) can do to help.

The only thing I can suggest is simply to hit the 'back' button if that happens again. Google and Safari definitely have them. You can then copy it and paste it.

Thanks for your replies.

The login option was not the problem, as I am permanently logged in. I imagine it was inadvertently trying to add pictures that were too big.

Can anyone advise on how I can reduce the size of a picture (mine seem to be just over 1.5Mb, rather than under)?

Regards
Tim

Reduce them in your editing software before trying to upload them to the LAF.

Personally, I upload the pictures to imgur before linking them here on LAF. I've never had an issue with the file size.

Tim,

I am always sorry to hear of someone's creative work going down the internet plughole  :(

Having suffered similar losses in the past, I now compose messages and postings on Notepad and save as I go. This is doubly useful as the .txt format of notepad will paste cleanly into any browser/website window. Then, once a week I clean out the folder I place these Notepad documents into.

I hope that you have better luck next time.
