Star Wars X-Wing Ground Forces - Scarif Shuttle Pad
« on: January 01, 2016, 12:04:53 PM »
I watched the Force Awakens and liked the scene where X-Wings and Tie Fighters are dogfighting while giving support to ground forces.
I play X- Wing and have decided to expand the game with ground forces.

I have bought the Dorling Kindersley - The Force Awakens: Visual Dictionary which is a good guide to the equipment and characters in the new film.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0241198917?keywords=force%20awakens%20visual%20dictionary&qid=1451648420&ref_=sr_1_1&s=books&sr=1-1

I have started to shop for vehicles and found these

First Order Transporter
This is a flying landing craft which, according to the Visual Dictionary will carry 20 stormtroopers
This model scales well with X-Wing
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Star-Wars-Awakens-Titanium-Transporter/dp/B00WO0A55O/ref=sr_1_5?s=kids&ie=UTF8&qid=1451648493&sr=1-5&keywords=force+awakens+transporter

AT-TE and Republic Gunship
I also received this pack for Christmas which gives me a AT-TE and Republic Gunship, both of which scale well with X-Wing.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Star-Wars-Command-Assault-Playset/dp/B00IJZFNM8/ref=sr_1_4?s=kids&ie=UTF8&qid=1451649395&sr=1-4&keywords=star+wars+rebel+command

Troops
I plan to buy these 10mm Pendraken Sci Fi marines for the Stormtroopers
http://www.pendraken.co.uk/SFH2-p6735/
And these as support
http://www.pendraken.co.uk/SFH3-p6736/

I have not decided on Rebel forces but they will also come from Pendraken – possibly modern Argentines or Vietnam era Australians.

Rules and Resources
I have found a scenario for the Battle of Hoth and game pieces for a DX-9 troopship here:
https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/938057/collection-user-created-material-x-wing-miniatures

Questions
Has anybody created rules for ground forces and ground / air combat in X-Wing?

Are there fan created movement cards for Force One Transporter, AT-TE and Rebel Gunship available on-line?

Are there other vehicles available now that work with X-Wing? – AT-AT? Snow speeders?
(I recall here was a Hoth Battle set but that des not appear to be available now)

Thanks
Mick

Well, there is always Mels Minis: http://www.shapeways.com/shops/mel_miniatures

But doing shapeways is expensive and very labor intensive (cleaning the minis, getting the other game material, painting etc.).
cheers and keep on gaming, Agis - http://www.adpublishing.de

I'm afraid I can't really help you with your questions but I have seen some ground based x-wing game on the net and they do look good.

Do post something up when you play, it'll be interesting to see  :)

Thank-you for the comments so far.

I had 18 left over Pendraken WW1 and WW2 figures which I have based and painted (3 to a 25mm round) to give me a few squads so I can work out the rules.  I have also mounted the First Order Transporter and Republic Gunship on EM4 Flying bases with transparent Perspex rods.

I have ordered Pendraken Sci Fi Marines for Stormtroopers (1 each of SFH1, SFH2, SFH3) and Pendraken Modern Argentines for Rebel Forces (1 each FLA1, FLA5, FLA6).  I have also ordered Pendraken zombie survivors (SFZ6) and Women & Children (SFH11) to give me civilians and figures to convert to make characters.  And lastly, I have bought Predators (SFX4) to give me some tall aliens.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/STAR-WARS-EMPIRE-STRIKES-BACK-BATTLE-HOTH-AMT-MODEL-KIT-MI-/191770007772?hash=item2ca66218dc

There's also a rebel base:

There are also Micro machine ones:

Hey, I have that second one:

Bought it when I played X-Wing, ended up selling the Millennium Falcon but I think I have almost everything else, including the base model. Mick_in_Switzerland, if you are interested, send me a PM ;)

Here is my progress so far.  I have collected and compared various Micro Machines and Titanium Series models and found some that fit in with the X-Wing Game and Pendraken figures.  I have now started to modify Pendraken figures to give me important characters.

Star Wars X-Wing and Tie Fighter on X-Wing Bases, Pendraken 10mm figures and conversions to make characters, , Star Wars Titanium AT-AT and First Order Transporter, Star Wars Micro Machines AT ST, X-Wing and Tie Fighter

I will make a photograph of the MPC / Ertl plastic kit of the X-Wing in comparison with the Micro Machines and official X-Wing game version.  All three are a similar size.

I will also show the figures and Snowspeeder in comparison with the Pendraken figures - they go quite well together but the metal figures are much more detailed than the plastic ones.

At the back on the left are several Micro Machines.  The various  land speeders are based on 21mm tall figures.

Next come Micro Machines AT-AT and First Order Transporter next to the bigger Titanium versions.

The metal figures are Pendraken and the white plastic figures are MPC/ Ertl.

The small snow speeder is MPC/Ertl and the large one next to the AT-ST is Micro Machines.

In the foreground, the X-Wings are Official X-Wing, Micro Machines (black) and MPC/Ertl (white).

So far, I have collected the following

Official X-Wing size – I am told they are about 1/300 scale
Two starter sets, Millennium Falcon, Slave 1, Shuttle, plus some extra small ships.  Also five similar sized X-Wings and Tie fighters from Micro Machines and three similar sized X-Wings from the Ertl /MPC 1990s Rebel Base set.

10mm figures = circa 1/175
This is the main ground force.  I think look these OK with the X-Wing Ships and are still useful as a wargame scale.  I have 100 Pendraken figures that give me about 30 Rebels, 30 Stormtroopers and with some work many character figures.  I also have about 40 figures from the Ertl /MPC 1990s Rebel Base set.  I have two First Order Transports, two AT-ST, an AT-AT walker, two (or three if I am flexible) snow speeder, an AT-TE walker and Republic Gunship which work with the figures.

22mm figures = circa 1/80
Seven Micro Machines Speeders and a few figures.  I will use some of these to game the Speeder chase in Return of the Jedi.

28mm figures = circa 1/60
Various vehicles and figures from the 1990s Star Wars Action Fleets sets, that belong to my sons.  I have not used these yet but have my eye on them.

Small Scale – assorted scales
Various ships from Micro Machines including Shuttle, First Order Transporter, AT-AT.  These will probably be converted into wreckage as scenery.

Thanks for the pictures Mick, that's incredibly helpful!

What is the height on the Titanium AT-AT? I'm sure it's "too small", but I'm curious as to how much. I haven't been able to find one locally to look at.
