72 hours and only two comments. Are wargamers in other areas as secretive?
I know there are several groups in the area, by repute or rumour, but it seems all to difficult to make contact with them.Finding like minded souls can be fraught with problems, you have to kiss an awful lot of frogs. Is this why so many find a small group of friends and stick with them? It`s easier than deciding would I like to play with this person/group.
Would people want to play with me?

I play the period not a ruleset.
I use pretty counters, be they hard plastic, bendy plastic, metal, resin, cardboard.
I don`t care if they are from manufacturer of the month.
I block paint, some subtle shading but no paint triads, magic dips or painting of the lining of a waistcoat pocket.
I`m am still searching for the perfect rule mechanisms.
If a rule gives a ridiculous result I will ignore it.
Just because the rules don`t say you can`t do it is not a reason.
I believe 28mm is not a scale or mdf the answer to every maidens prayer.
I enjoy a good friendly discussion.

Noverre Man - I'm also in Dorset (near Poole). I gave up club gaming ages ago, not because I didn't like what they do, but because I have other hobbies taking up weekends and come clubs meet on evenings, which doesn't fit in with my work pattern. Hence I only get to do occasional games with friends. Feel free to drop me a PM.

Some of the local one have migrated to holding their club nights at Entoyment, so the shop should be able to give to give you club contacts.

I went to Beachhead and came away with a similar impression to you. Event organisation and selection of traders was great, but let down by communication and the appearance of many of the games.  Regarding communication, in order to put on a good demo the gamers involved need to realise is that playing the game has to be secondary to engaging with the punters. If Beachhead is on next year I'll considering getting together with some chums and putting on a proper demo game.
