@Chris, many thanks for the suggestion - I really like the idea of some subtle panel lines along with the transfers.  Should serve to break up the surfaces a little, without destroying the minimal vibe of the old series stuff.

It's not until you come to make something like this that you realise the stuff on screen is a bit odd looking!

I've also been thinking about getting some inkjet printer decals, rather than doing the numbers and lines by hand/stencil.  Anyone got any experience or recommendations with those products?

Also, is that shuttle available to buy from Shapeways at all? Like you I've been looking for one, unlike you I do not have a 3d printer.
