Felicity Poppington and TWO new sizes of Female Head sprues!
« on: 05 February 2016, 06:17:45 PM »
Statuesque Miniatures is pleased to announce the release of three new products.

"Professor Felicity Poppington has been investigating the stories surrounding Statuesque Asylum for some time, interviewing former patients and staff to hear their tales of horror and dread. Now she must cross the threshold and discover for herself what hides in the shadows of this benighted place.”

First up we have Professor Felicity Poppington, a new addition to the Statuesque Asylum range of pulp figures.

Professor Felicity Poppington is priced at £4 and is available to buy now.

Next we have two new sprues of female heads. In addition to the ever popular Heroic Scale Female Heads range, we now have two new sizes of heads with which you can convert your figures. Check out my blog for various comparison pictures of Statuesque miniatures and accessories alongside other ranges.

The Fine Scale Female Heads are designed to match the size of the Statuesque Sci-fi range and are priced at £4.50 for 10 heads.

The existing Fine Scale Resistance Fighter range of heads have long been used by customers to convert various manufacturers' figures, particularly those that feature smaller, finer heads than most. These new heads expand on that range, giving more options for conversions.

The Pulp Scale Female Heads are designed to match the size of the Statuesque Asylum and Pulp Alley ranges, and are also priced at £4.50 for 10 heads.

I'm hopeful this new size of head sprue will prove popular. I consider them to be a pretty standard size of head - if such a thing can be said about miniature figures - and as such they can be used with a wide variety of figures of all genres. I've been busy converting various figures from my collection and will show the results on the Statuesque Miniatures Facebook page in the next few days.

So now there are three size ranges of Statuesque Miniatures Female Heads, so hopefully there will be something to meet your needs. Both the Fine Scale and Pulp Scale ranges will be expanded to feature all the options available in the Heroic Scale range -and more!

Thanks folks, I'm pleased with how Prof Poppington turned out.  :)

Now... Off with their heads!  :o

As I said in the first post I'd been playing about lopping the heads off some figures from my collection to see how they looked with the new fine scale and pulp scale heads. Originally I used the master castings but today I replaced those with the actual production castings (which are a teeny tiny bit smaller than the masters) to give a true picture of the head sizes.

First up are the Pulp Scale Female Heads:

From left to right we have a Heresy Inspector, Statuesque/Pulp Alley Golgo Satana, Hasslefree Ekaterina and a Copplestone Swell Doll.

Next, some figures with the Fine Scale Female Heads:

From left to right: Red Box Katherine, Infinity Ghulam, Hasslefree Dione.

These were fairly simple conversions. If you pick a model with an appropriate collar you can just snip off the head, file the join point on the Statuesque head flat and pin in place. I haven't used any green stuff on these; perhaps a bit of liquid green stuff or a miliput wash around the join would totally hide it, but they work as they are I think.

Next up I'm going to try the heads on various plastic figures...  :)

Prof Poppington is amazing. You have got all the anxiety and fear she is experiencing in her expression and body language. It's hard to believe it is a 28mm mini. It looks like a much bigger model.

Also it is very helpful to see the heads on different models.

Here's some more figures I've been playing about with.

I know a lot of people have been doing some great conversions using the Heroic Scale Female Heads and Frostgrave plastic Soldiers, but I thought I'd see how the Pulp Scale Female Heads look with the plastic Cultists.

Bosun sizes up the Cult of the Pulp Scale Head while Dr Fang pulls the strings!

Tips for using the Pulp Scale Female Heads with Frostgrave Cultists:

1- Get a wee ball of putty (2mm approx) and flatten it into the neck socket on the figure so you have a circle of putty about 0.5mm in depth.
2- Nick a section in the front of the putty circle to create a collar.
3- Push your Pulp Scale Female Head into the putty collar, positioned as far back as possible.
4- Tidy up the collar a bit making sure some of the neck still shows (just so they don't look too swaddled in fabric).

That's it. Works rather nicely if I may say so myself. Obviously, you do have to take some care when positioning the heads, but putting them as far back as possible means the back is straightened compared to the standard male figures.

The Frostgrave Cultists are great little figures - really fun to assemble and you can make some great poses. Though I'm not sure I achieved this with the Cultist with the pistol. I imagine her shouting 'Can everyone just calm the **** down, guys?!'. :D

Next I'll try the Frostgrave Soldiers. I'm not so sure how they'll look (mainly because of their chunky leg wraps!) but it's worth a shot. And I've also got some Perry Foot Knights to try out. :)

Great idea on the different head sizes!  Hope to pick some up in the near future.

Have you thought about doing something similar with weapons - make some a little larger than the set that is produced now?  Also, how about left handed weapons?

Cheers,

Matt

Here's another mix n match example for you.
Empress body with the girl's head by Statuesque.

The head came from the Mei-Lin Mayfair 2.0 figure pack [link below].
I chose it because the hair is in a bun that I thought looked like that worn by modern military women.

.... Also, how about left handed weapons?....
I second the call for left handed weapons, as I had to scrounge this left hand from someone else.  :'(

Thank you for the great minis and heads!

Nice work Amalric!

Regarding weapons sprues, a left handed sprue is something we need to get on and get done. I believe Dave and Mila were thinking of having more variety in armaments so any ideas are welcome. I also need to get sets done for female hands, as the male hands are bit big for my female figures.

I think it's unlikely I'd do larger scaled weapons, though I have been thinking about a sci-fi weapon sprue. Those weapons would likely be a bit bigger (nothing excessive, not 40k huge).

For additional weapon options a huge one would be a Bergmann MP18, which saw service in tons of wars. Beyond that, here's some additional ideas:

- (as mentioned) Bergmann MP18
- MP34 (the main German submachine gun between the Nazi rise to power and the start of WWII)
- Common military rifles like the Kar 98, Lee-Enfield, etc. (though there are lots of these available elsewhere)
- Grenade (potato masher, pineapple, or otherwise)
- Binoculars
- Camera
- Clipboard, map case, or slim valise
- Flashlight or lantern
- Wrench or screwdriver
- Pocketwatch or compass (might be possible to make an item that can pass for either)
- Open, clasping, or pointing hands
- Smoking pipe
- Hat (suggest a flat cap or fedora)

There's also the Lewis Gun or BAR, but both are a bit cumbersome and so not suited to one-handed use.
