Toilet Paper Mache Tower is coming along.  Just popped out the door and window forms I made from 1/2" rigid insulation:

Also cleaned up the area to the top left of the window since that photo was taken -- looks much better now.  (Cleaned up with pocket knife and awl--for etching.)

Really liking handmaking stuff with toilet paper mache masonry.  Gives it a 100% unique, organic look and cannot be broken by dropping off table.

I'll work on some shadow detail with a brush and black wash.

Downloaded Blender software (first time I've ever used it was today).

Watched this video:

In one hour I designed and sculpted this:

and just finished 3D printing it on my 3D printer I got a couple days ago:

Weight of tile is 20 grams, so just under 50 cents to print.  It's a 2.5" x 2.5" tile with 30% infill -- printed in hi-res mode (.1mm layers).

I soooo want a 3d printer. Hmmm maybe I can sell a kidney....

Looks awesome. Can you go into more detail about your Toilet paper stone?

Oh and which printer did you get?

Check out my crafting blog link on the first page of this thread (under stone huts). There is a link that goes into the TP mache in detail.

I got the $300 one from Monoprice.com.  Check out this thread about that:  http://dmscraft.proboards.com/thread/3621/print-me-army

Thanks for the complements :)

I am really happy about my latest accomplishment.  I just started using 3D rendering software and am getting better at sculpting a gaming tile.

Here it is.  (MY goal is to make 8 to 16 unique tiles like the following that I can use in various combinations/configurations in 2x2, 3x3, to 6x6 tiles.)   Then 3D print them and paint them for use in Frostgrave, D&D etc..

You may be jealous of my painting skills, but trust me... I am just as jealous of your expert crafting and (3D) modeling skills. This is really cool!

Do you have any idea of the approximate cost per tile? There are plenty of companies out there selling 3D dungeon tiles, and while not even really that expensive, it does add up if you want a large enough dungeon.

To print a 2 x 2 tile with a 1/4" thick base, and like 1/8" thick tiles sitting on that base.. it's around 35 cents a tile.  Corner wall tiles are about 85 cents and wall tiles somewhere inbetween.  Now these are for tall corners and walls.  If you only want short height walls (like I am gonna model for myself), it'd be less than prices just mentioned.  (But maybe I might just go with the taller walls -- e.g. dwarven forge, openforge style.)

Lovely scenery, jennifer!
However, although i'm a big supporter (and user) of 3D for scenery, i think that for rocks there are better techniques to achieve that result. You can start with a piece of plaster and carve the rocks out, or even mold some pieces of styrene to form the rocks... in any case, you'll get a more realistic look with lesser effort.

Some examples on my facebook page: i'd link my site but - for now-  it's still down. :(

Gorgeous work thank you!

i'm sorry i don't have all my tutorials available on my site right now (since it's down), but it's a rather simple process: carving, hard brush, metal brush, hard brush again. :)
