OFFICIAL: Frostgrave Gnolls

Well, it has been discussed for some time, but, finally, I'm very pleased to be able to reveal this little beauty...

Out in time for the release of Into the Breeding Pits in July, this boxed set will, like the Cultists, allow you to either build a horde of slavering beasts to oppose your warbands, or to construct a savage warband, well suited for allying with a more bestial wizard (on which, more later...).

Pics, sprues etc. to follow in due course.

Looking great and good idea to combine both the option for wild gnolls and warband gnolls! Already the third plastic set for Frostgrave, looks like Frostgrave is here to stay. Really looking forward in grabbing these during the nickstarter ( if there is one!). Also love the artwork!

Note Joe, my thread was a couple of seconds faster than this one lol but nice too see more info here.

Lovely. Just lovely. Gnoll warband for Frostgrave AND gnoll army for Dragon Rampant.
Seriously, I've been waiting years for plastic gnolls.

Oh dear.  I may have to get a few boxes and do a small Kings of War army, just so that I can paint them up in the colors of the Blackburrow gnolls of Everquest.

Even 15+ years on, that should bring a chill of fear to my group's hearts.

Is that what gnolls look like?! ;)

I had some Minifigs gnolls from their rather good 2nd generation fantasy line back in the 1980s (the one with the pig-faced orcs) and they looked nothing like this.
Or maybe I'm thinking of kobolds...

These look like a cross between angry mice and hyenas :)
(Is this a bid for the Skaven market?)

Still - more North Star plastics. Good news.

Like orcs, gnolls evolved considerably over time. Originally designed as a cross between gnomes and trolls, by the first Monster Manual, they were reworked as hyena-men:

To my knowledge, the Minifigs (and, I reckon, the Otherworld) range were based on this initial interpretation. Over time, they seem to have become somewhat more bestial, such as this 3rd-edition (I think) depiction:

As the remnants of magical experimentation by the wizards of Frostgrave, this more recent depiction is more in keeping with our gnolls. That said, as you point out, the gnolls of Frostgrave aren't simply hyena-men...

Depending on the size, one would think that the extra heads you get in these boxes might just also fit, say, GW skaven, broadening your options considerably. And just he notion of having a band of gnolls for DnD alone sounds fantastic.

These look like they should be fantastic.
If they're the same quality as the other plastics they WILL be fantastic. ;)
