Fantasy Knights Miniatures!
« on: February 11, 2016, 07:55:39 AM »
I was having a look at the Relicblade stuff and I came across the Questing Knight from it.

It made me realise something: I've not seen very many generic fantasy knights. They're always very over the top.

So, what ones do you guys know of and which ones are your favourites?

The Questing Knight from Relicblade:

There are quite a few in the Reaper line...but I think non-fantastical knights are ignored a bit because you can use simple real knights in place of them.  I'm going to use some of the Perry's in my dungeon crawl.

That is true. I just think you can tell a difference between fantasy knights and non-fantasy knights.

Since my very first introduction to the greater Warhammer universe by way of my first copy of White Dwarf (nr 145), I've always been in love with this particular sculpt:

Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

Ooo, he's the champion in charge of my Bretonnian archer units from way-back-when. :-)

I think most fantasy miniatures today are over the top. They look grotesquely cartoonish in many ways. I look at the art in the DnD 3.0 + books and just shake my head.

Hence why I've turned to using historicals and LOTR figures for my gaming needs.

The old Grenadier Chaos Foot Knights sculpted by Mark Copplestone are nicely evil fantasy without being silly:

He also did a range that were supposed to be historical WotR types but looked more like fantasy humans. They weren't over the top as they were meant to be historicals. Alas I can't find them.

They are definitely excellent and I've been considering buying them off Mirliton.

Are these the ones you mean?

Some of them are on Mirliton, too.

Yes, I've got the pack that's the 2nd photo I posted above. They're quite a good match for modern figures.

The Chaos warriors in my first photo are quite small by today's standards - they're chunky 25s rather than 28s.

...and...at the risk of hijacking the thread...Midlam Miniatures have some quite nice stuff mixed through their ranges. I'm fairly sure that most of their stuff is 25mm rather than 28mm, but they are nice:

I have a mixture of all sorts.

Perry Miniatures/Foundry/Grenadier Medievals etc, I use as your 'run-of-the-mill' knights, or questing knights.

The more over the top knights you get from Reaper I use generally for specialist organisations, undead or demon hunters, few in number, but they're 'out there' if you know what I mean.

Reaper have some in their older figures
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it anymore and what is it seems weird and scary.
