1946 German Kätzchen (Kitten) APC

Been wanting to do my Weird WWII SS PG platoon with this thing but I have yet to find it in 1/48.  Great looking paint job and just a cool little vehicle.

As far as I know there is no 1/48 Kätzchen kit at the moment. 

Would there be a demand for paper panzers in 1/48th?

I'd seriously look at mastering the Katzchen, the E10 and the E25 if there was. (got scale plans for all 3)

I would certainly buy one of each. I would, however, consider doing them in 1/56th if I were you - even if I´m usually a quarter scale guy, they would work with the great vehicles from BAM in that scale. Of course, I´d also buy 1/48th scale, but since I want to use them with my Secrets of the 3rd Reich stuff, I´d preferr the smaller (works better with the Mechas). I´d personally want a handful of Kätzchen and one or two E25s, never been that much of an E10 fan myself.

That´s right, of course. I use old and new West Wind figures plus BAM and some Foundry, so I´m rather easy to please.

I would buy 1/48th scale as well. In addition, if done precisely enough (which I´m sure you´ll manage to pull off), you could combine it with the various kits available from Gaso.Line on the subject. That E-100 variant with the twin-linked 88 looks more and more alluring every time I visit their page... and it´s currently down to 55 Euros... By the way, they already do an E-10, so you might prefer the E-25 as a first kit, or the Kätzchen.

I'm actually looking into maybe producing a 1/48 resin kit of it.  I've got the pics for reference and a guy who can do it all it will matter is how much it will cost to produce as times are a getting a bit tight these days.

If the price was right, I could definitely be tempted to get a Kätzchen or two for my 1946 troops (28/30mm)

I can just see a pair of Kätzchen's with X7 anti tank missiles going hull-down to defend against advancing Soviets.

Well gentleman and ladies, I found it and love it!  I give you a 1/48 scale Kitten APC from Arctic Skunk over at Shapeways.  I have it in hand and it comes in a single piece and is beautiful.  Swing over to the web site and check it out along with all his other stuff.  Hope to get some paint on it this weekend to show it off.  Our wait is finally over!!!!

This one is scratched and bashed off a Tamiya 38t..looks a little big next to the 28mm panther, but I think it works ok...and Tamiya 1/48 kits are cheap!

The Rubicon kit's probably your cheapest option if you want a Katzchen. From a £20 kit you can make two vehicles, as you get two different sets of tracks. If you're scratchbuilding the interior and upper sections, it isn't that far a leap to make the other missing bits the kit doesn't provide duplicates of.

2 sets of tracks in the Rubicon kit?  Dammit!  I would have based my katzchen off the Rubicon base as I prefer 28mm, but the weren't released yet when I embarked on the build...1/48 Tamiya was all there was. And the heer 46 stuff at 1/100....

As far as commercial 1/56th kits your options are scratch building, or the Heer 46 and JTFM models. Of them JTFM's the best, though the most expensive (and unless you're ordering through their UK retailer, may never turn up in the first place). Heer 46's meanwhile is the least detailed, and required a load of work out of the box to make it historically accurate (re: re: re: where's the damn engine!).

I'd probably say then buy one of the JTFM Katzchens, then make the others from the Rubicon kits copying its measurements. With my own I'd already made two without an actual Katzchen, and I wound up making them too tall. I have a third sitting about somewhere which is better, so that kit isn't as bad as how I made it look. Though you could go ahead and make another alt-history transport, like one based on the Panther (cancelled in favour of the Katzchen), Panzer IV, Puma, or 38 (d) (which I guess would make more sense seeing that for a period they were going to use that chassis for loads of things before it too was shelved).
