Classic Citadel (Strider and Hengist)
« on: February 25, 2016, 11:51:37 AM »
Old Citadel nostalgia isn't usually my thing but I painted these for a Citadel themed paint-along. Strider and Hengist, from the c01 Fighters range. They're a bit super smooth looking due to some varnish issues...

Strider

Hengist

The take away lesson here is if you have problems with matt varnish having a bit of sheen just leave it well alone.   >:(

Nice painting particularly on Hengist's face. :)

(Btw maybe try some Daler Rowney Soluble Matt varnish if you're having sheen issues. It's the mattest varnish ever.)

The varnish was fine after a good shake, unfortunately I accidently gloss varnished them again as both gloss and matt are in identical bottles...  :'(

lol They look good regardless. I'm particularly impressed by Strider.

They look great - I feel your pain with regards to the varnish issue though, had similar calamities myself!

Indeed. Both miniatures have realy nice paintwork. However, the Strider/Aragorn miniature is from the boxed set Khazad Doom and included also miniatures from Boromir, Gandalf and a Balrog. The attached picture shows the painted balrog. ;-)

Thanks for the comments folks.

Haha, they are labelled it's just the labels are identical with one word difference. The varnish actually looks different as well with the matt being pretty opaque, it's not a mistake i'll make again.  ;D

the Strider/Aragorn miniature is from the boxed set Khazad Doom

Thanks for the info, when I looked him up the Citadel Strider I found was posed differently but I guess I didn't check boxed sets. Looking at the prices for the Balrog on ebay I don't think I'll be finishing the set anytime soon.  :o
